You can cancel your counter attacks into dashes, kinda like Focus Attack Dash Cancels. They're very useful in field mode to get around projectiles because you can CADC left or right .

Unlike MK8 however, it doesn't split the TV screen in two. Instead it shows a completely different screen on the gamepad, making it render two screens of 1920x1080 and 854x480 at the same time. The reason it doesn't drop in half with MK8 is because it only needs to render one screen.
Hell, pokken could probably also do two player 60fps if it split the TV screen in two, but then it'd look like shit

the singleplayer is kind of lame though. Just grind out matches against the AI until you can fight some unique NPC's with horrible voice actors. The early AI is sandbagging but it actually tries in the higher leagues.

Tried it today.
I liked the overall fights but switching from Dragonball Budokai Tenkaichi controls to Tekken controls felt confusing and somewhat random. That and a bit too many "cinematic" attacks irked me a bit but overall I'd say it's a good game.
The roster felt diverse enough, too. I tried Machamp and then Suicune against a friend (who used Blaziken and the Snivy evolution) and they moved and played at different paces, as should be expected of creatures with different builds.
Maybe sidestepping could be a bit more useful, since I found it was slow and not very effective but maybe I'm just used to Gundam vs.

I have done all the tutorials and tired all the characters.
I select a random character and battle a very hard CPU in training. I don't expect to destroy it, but it should be entertaining learning and trying to get better, but it doesn't.
I keep trying to improve with a character, but I keep getting bored and annoyed. I can't be the hardest CPU or people. And when I do win every now and again, it doesn't feel amazing or satisfying. Feels like the other player was just trashier then me and I got an easy win.
Maybe fighting games just aren't for me.

Depends on your personality type.
I have a lot of fun figuring things out with Gardevoir. I'm thinking ideally you'd want to knock people into Duel phase and be aggressive with the traps and rush in and fuck em up and then space them out in field till you can do it all over again. My only complaint is I wish her teleport went the height of a full jump, so it could be a bit more defensive.

The game is obviously competitive, but with things like auto combos for just mashing Y there are many periods of like 2-3 seconds where I feel like I might as well be a chimp holding the controller. I tend to feel that's not ideal, as I like to feel 1:1 engaged with my vidyo.
It has a lot more to it than that, and thinking and performing are required. Very unique fighting game and too early for me to know how gud I can get at it.

Sceptile's 6th Combo on training is far harder to do than a shoryuken
The mechanics are clear and easy to understand, combos are flashy, have impact and require actually being attentive to maximize damage and the characters actually are fleshed out enough that they require time to learn their ins, outs and their gameplan.
Pleasantly surprised. Bamco found a way to make an accessible fighting game that has a decent enough skill ceiling that casuals aren't turned off, but more seasoned players are still rewarded.

I'm the opposite really. I really couldn't get into Gief so much in IV, but I LOVE him in V. Maybe I'm just a sucker for armor and love his s.HP, EX Running Bear, and V-Skill too much, perhaps the V-Trigger's vacuum and juggle potential are too interesting, maybe having an extremely-damaging 720 Super that can be comboed into has a massive buffer and is 1-Frame is just too fun, or maybe it's just that SPDs are easier in this game so I can do them more consistently. It feels like a slighty more technical Ultimate Ninja Storm it has large circular areas, you start by spamming ranged attacks or dodging them, then you get close and do a dance of counters, combos or grabs, then you fill your meter and get into awakening mode and combo into a highly theatrical super move that might or might not kill you.
I find the single player pretty lacking tho, like from all the things they could have taken from Tekken, instead of one singular league ladder why not multiple dojos/leagues scattered with varying degrees of difficulty, there has to be enough ghost data from the arcade release for that, no?

Safe for, or against?
Libre has a very safe forward A (Discharge) for both field and duel, which can more often than not catch jumping opponents off guard when charged because it goes in 3 directions at once at that point.
Back A (Electroweb) has pretty darn good vertical range for a grab and can easily grab an airborne opponent who think they can just get out of the way. The range and power are also very obscene when enhanced. It also causes phase shifts.
Up A (Flying Press) isn't really good unless you used the enhanced version, because it'll stun your opponent, leaving it open for whatever you want to do next.
Down A (Wild Charge) is powerful and will always cause a phase shift to field if it connects. It's a counter, even though it looks like a grab, so it'll beat a lot of attacks but get shat on by actual grabs.
Aerial A (Spark) is also a counter but is a lot more unsafe than Wild Charge. However, if you space it right, instead of hitting your opponent twice, you'll stun them and will have a chance to chain pretty much any followup you want.
As for the weak parts of Libre, her only good ranged option is Discharge, so if you can keep her away from you and don't jump everywhere like a rabbit in heat, you should be fine, unless the player has good knowledge of CADC (Counter Attack Dash Cancel).
I'm playing Charizard and the only combos I know so far are aerial X into YYY and seismic toss into burst limit. Am I playing wrong?

Crustle would be awesome in this game. There is neither a bug or rock primary Pokemon character, so why not both! Huge health sponge. Great normals. And he could play like Guile: U-turn = Flash kick, Rock Blast - Sonic Boom , and his burst attack would be Rock Wrecker. Perfect!

Bigger? I doubt it. Smash has multiple scenes, all of which range from decently sizable to huge, and there isn't even THAT much overlap between them, so it's pretty damn large.
That said, Pokken will bring in the Pokemon audience, Smash audience, Fighting Game audience, etc. so I think it'll have a pretty good scene, especially since Nintendo is actually dumping money into its tourney scene from the gate. They're adding like $100k to the pot of a championship series.

Though he isnt my favorite, i'd like to see Gyardos. The idea of playing a fighting game as a giant pissed off serpent is just awesome. he may be an obvious choice just from pokemon popularity, but from a fighting game perspective, he would be a crazy addition.
Another one i'd think would be interesting would be Poliwrath, just because i could picture him fighting a lot like Hakan from SF4.

The writers took the backlash of how terrible B/W was to heart and now Ash's actually fucking competent. He one-shoted all his gym battles after the first one without the need for rematches or getting bullshit "you lost but showed some potential so here's a free badge" like in the first season. The animation is also the best in the entire series bar none and the companions are interesting and don't drag the show down (again, unlike B/W).

You can pretty much watch the Mega Evolution specials I-III any time prior to the episode where they reach Olympia (the psychic gym). Then watch IV after the gym battle (the gym battle is the final XY episode, IV bridges the final XY episode to the first XYZ ep).
The reason why you need to watch I-III before the Olympia gym is because she mentions them.
