Defensive ability isn't so that you can turtle. It's so that you can find an opening to attack. If people have nothing to be afraid of they'll just keep attacking you until you die.

Except there's always an opening to attack. Having high evade doesn't just mean there will be no openings, it means the guy will have to take more risky openings and opportunities, things that would be off the table because it'd put you in a very bad position. But who cares if it puts you in a very bad position when they other guy can't really do anything to punish you for it, because he lacks offensive ability?
