How about when Jackal and Oliva got together? That surprised me more.
I love everything about Bravely Defaults style.
The music.
The character designs.
The clothing.
The art.
Just every stylistic design choice.
I thought it would be the one series to finally make me buy a 3DS after not owning a Nintendo system since the GameCube.
But they just had to butcher it.
They fuck up the story.
They fuck up the writing with memes and references.
They fuck up the art style to make it more accessible to children.
It really hurts /v/. Just looking at what this game could have been to me really hurts.
The only thing that's really capturing that perfect combination of great music, clothing and art right now isFFXIVand I can only appreciate that for so long.
>>331331756
Blame player feedback and popularity polls.
They took that, reused as many assets as they could, and shoved out a game as fast as possible to make money. That's pretty much what BS is.
Is the Guardian ever useful? Possessing enemies never seems really useful unless it works on bosses, didn't try that.
Also isn't Auto-Undo basically cheating? You can't lose with it unless all of your guys die in the very same turn.

I haven't bothered trying it out but I guess it breaks the game/makes it easy mode the same way that double hp did in BD.
>>331332023
there's a lot of strong builds that feel broken. But that's kind of what fun about the game. I like coming up with witty builds
>>331332617
Yeah I really liked that about BS. There's way more strong builds, some of the level 11 abilities really turn some mediocre jobs around. Samurai's ability makes the class a lot more interesting instead of just being Free Lunch supplier for Pirate and Valkyrie's ability turns the class from awkward to actually fun.
Spellcraft also made caster classes way more interesting and some of the new passives actually makes them stupidly OP, in comparison to BD where casters where pretty bad. Chainspell combined with spellcraft or some other passives is hilarious.
Edea is cute!

>>331335158
Edea definitely had more in the way of personality traits in BD, but that was because she had her character arc of struggling with her ideals and the connection with Eternia that came up with most of the asterisk holders.
In Second she has absolutely no personal conflict, so her role in the plot consists of talking about food and wanting Ringabel's dick for one cutscene.
>>331335116
Tiz is more of the same, but I think that's the problem. The ending of Default leaves you with the possibility of Tiz knowing he was living on borrowed time for some portion of the story, which adds up with how eager he is to throw his life away on the suicide mission in Eisenberg. Second fails to follow the fact Tiz is fucking dead up to the point where they just resolve the issue out of nowhere at the end.
>>331335158
Her main problem was the fight with her father and her conflicting values. That was supposed to change her.
She joined her father, she took up the helm.
Instead she just as hot headed, immature, and obsessed with food as she ever was. No character development. What happened in BD might as well of never happened.
She is even crazier about food and stupid about the world.
>>331335618
Just play the demo, it's free and fun. It even has achievements.
>>331335116
Tiz is barely a character now with nothing behind him accept Anges. Suppose you removed Anges. Would Tiz even be a character anymore in BS? He would have no reason to be in the story, no reason to interact with anyone at all. He was so little a character he served as a mouth piece for one that was more important than him.
>tfw Ringabel came out when Edea started crying about being alone

>>331336216
No things only reset once now and most of the sidequests make you choose between two jobs. So you'll want to do them again to get all classes anyway.
>>331336216
There's a new game plus 2/3rds of the way through but they handle it very differently so it's much better than the way BD did it
>>331336216
There's less padding but the game feels shorter than its predecessor because of how suddenly it ends. It might just feel that way because I was expecting eight chapters though.
>>331336216
>>331336408
Oh and the reset only applies to sidequests, you don't have to fight the same bosses/tune the crystals or anything silly like that again.
>>331336460
>the game feels shorter than its predecessor
It is. Part of why it feels so short is that when you finally unlock the other jobs from the sidequests and get the last special jobs (Templar, Yokai) you're suddenly at the final dungeon without having touched most of the jobs.
Sure it's better than padding the game by making you kill the same bosses 5 times in a row but the ending definitely left me wanting for more.
>>331321054

>>331337502
>I could never finish Bravely Default because of the ridiculous backtracking
You can literally turn battles off if you are autistic and dont want to see all the side quests and world changes.
>>331337502
>you get youkai job that unlocks lvl 11 for every job
>but game will have only one final boss left so you will never fully enjoy it
Anyway i don´t think new jobs are better than older. Quite the opposite. Fencer is good though if done right.
>>331337502
Wizard's the best, level up that spellcraft because it makes every other magic job better
Next is a new job based on stat raising and then a choice between Red Mage and Thief
>>331337502
Just stick with your Wizard and Charioteer if you want to powergame. You want those high level spellcraft abilities for your caster(s) and healer and Charioteer's level 9 Wanton Destruction is the best physical attack you'll get for a long time.
Pick Black Mage when you can, group cast all passive+Spellcraft completely changes some jobs. Like being able to buff your whole party or using the Hammer spellcraft for 2x damage against all enemies at once (it's supposed to be balanced by hitting one enemy, group cast all counters that).
I never fucking finished BD because this week my whole savedata got wiped out and I was in Ch. 5

Providence disappointed me mostly in her design. I was expecting something more angel-like. Something with a more divine look. Not a malnourished crow that becomes a Illuminati symbol with hands. And the cherry on top is that she was piss easy. Crow was harder than Illuminati Head for me because I never figured out that I had to do the thing Divine Judgment told me to do for it to not trigger until after I had beaten her. I pulled through by giving my Catmancer Tiz Stand Ground and he surviving it 5 fucking times. Fucking ace. Catmancer was my MVP job all through the game.
Second bosses felt easier in general compared to Default ones. Maybe it was because you could pull broken stuff earlier than you could in Default. Spellcraft and Triple Wield are just way too good.

No.
Edea got flanderized. The post you just quoted and spoke about Edea? That's 90% of Edea character in Second.
Tiz gets no development at all. Same guy as Default. Perhaps even worse because he doesn't has Agnes or Ringabel to bounce off.
Yew actually has a personality but 90% of the story is cocksucking him and his family.
Magnolia has no personality at all. Her only two character traits are being in love with Yew and food. Remember Magnolia from the epilogue of Default? Well, you won't be getting anything like that here.
>>331342458
>not hard with growth egg and obliterate.

Thanks for nothing jerks.

>>331343253
Did you even play BD?
Nothing anyone has said in invalid.
Set two hundred years after the catastrophe that occurred in Bravely Default, the ocean to the south of Luxendarc was evaporated by the Holy Pillar caused by "the one who brings about apocalypse". The four Crystals, as well as their temples, were shattered and scattered throughout the Luxendarc in the form of thick thunder clouds which blocked out the sun leading to the "decade of blackening rains and roaring thunder". Those who survived abandoned the flatlands.
In the present, the world continues to decay. The lands continue separating from the surface slowly rising into the skies and disintegrating in the upper atmosphere. First it had been the cliffs to the west of Florem, then the northern part of Eisenberg. Over the next hundred years four plains, eight highlands, three oceans and two continents floated into the skies and disintegrated.
Fifty years prior to the game, an organization proclaiming to be of the Crystal Orthodoxy, landed on the rising continent. They gathered the crystal fragments and buried a crystal piece they had crystallized with the power of prayer within the continent. The continent ceased to rise, coming to a halt above the thunderclouds covering the lands. This place became known as Crystalica . The organization traveled by airship to the high lands where people had gathered and brought them to Crystalica, saving them from Luxendarc's end.
Crystalica gave birth to a society revolving around the Crystal Faith. A method for artificially producing crystal, was created and the decline of the crystal power within Crystalica was prevented. The invention of the Anchor Obelisk allowed for the efficient collection of crystal fragments from rising continents and the religious organization buried a crystal piece within four other floating continents and appointed four vestals to govern them.
>>331343253
Didn't the western versions of Second force neutral endings to sidequests?
>>331342991
Problem with him, Geist, and Geist's son, the characters with the most potential, is they had great build up until the end of Chapter 4.
In Chapter 5 it's like the entire plot was thrown out the window, like everything they did was pointless.
You even had foreshadowing when Janne was gonna pull some heroic shit, and make up with Yew, and Geist had this whole connection to Brave and Eternia, and it was gonna be fantastic.
But it wasn't, it was just shoved under the rug for all this Altair and Vega nonsense that's shoved in your face without any way to avoid it.
>>331343834

Was it really? In Default epilogue we see Agnes fixing all the Crystals but there it tells us that the Crystals got all fucked up and broke afterwards. That's contradictory to what we got or what were supposed to get. Looks like it may be what happened in one of the many worlds that Airy fucked up more than anything.

For example, Magnolia saying "You are lucky to be born in my era" implies that a fuckton of time has passed.
Another detail was how in the epilogue if you looked at the Moon you could see Ba'al Goldie fighting against some flying armies. He's completely missing in that scene when it happens in Second.
Also, the biggest red flag is that Second team has a completely different writing team than the one Default had.
All in all, we'll never truly know. All we can do is speculate because you don't need to be particularly smart to know that what we got in Second is very different from what the epilogue in Default promised.

Well fuck. So is she supposed to be the aborted daughter of Ringabel and Edea or something?
>>331345747
They barely played a part in the story, how were they your favorite part?
>>331343253
It's not just the story that baded about BS. It's the whole entire game that insufferable. Everything bad about the original BD is brought back in BS and sometimes even worse than it was in BD. They brought back the repeat, they brought back the tedious battles, they brought back the OP jobs that will raped the game, and much more. Not to say BS doesn't has it own problems like dungeons being long as fuck for no reason and it's obvious rehashing of BD, just that all that combine just make it worse than BD in almost everyway.
>>331343253
Most of the shitposting has calmed down now, you can easily talk about the game.

>>331345747
You only fight 3 during the whole main game.
They technically have importance in the plot, but as I mentioned >>331344210 here. They only become relevant nearly at the end of the game and even then just barely.
>I thought they were one of the best parts of Default
So they were mine anon. You can't imagine how mad and disappointed I was at how little they figured in Second.
>>331346180
Not him but, for one, their unique designs. They are otherwordly, creepy and perhaps even outright disgusting but they are also eerily attractive. The battle music, a strange chant sung by kids and a opera lady and last but not least the battle backgrounds that were based on real world locations, and unfitting for a game set on a medieval setting, but given a dramatic make-over that makes them as strange as both the Ba'als designs and their battle music. It's not just the bosses, it's the whole combination of everything that makes them amazing experiences.
>>331346693
Because who cares about Ba'als when we can instead tell you how much the Geneolgia family sucks and how they are literally the only ones to blame for everything bad that has ever happened?

Instead of purposely looking for broken combinations and breeze the game with them just use what you like and have fun with.

>>331349591
>No shit? Is this your first game ever with a job system? No matter what you do there will always be something broken.
They knew what was broken in the last game and they replaced it with worse.
>I bet you are the kind of people who purposely grind like crazy
I didn't, you can just cap damage as early as chapter 2 with just magic hammer, and by chapter 5 I was just getting swamped with JP and EXP from normal encounters I had to turn that shit off.
Quad wield, mimic, meteor rain, calm. It's not even worth it when you can make a combo like that and just breeze through the game.
Want to know something though? BD had it's broken ass shit but the fights at the end got so tough it forced you to experiment, BS doesn't even bother to do that.

>Do I ever get Agnes on my team?

>>331350004
Whatever is your latest dungeon, just chain as many fights as you can (use Rejuvination special from staff if you have the BP bonus part to get more BP for longer chain). Once you reset the world the hot springs dungeon (next to the volcano) has your party start with 3 BP which makes chaining even easier, a 3 chain gives 900-999 JP and about 5k xp. You can easily chain 7 or so fights for 20kish xp if you want to get levels but just doing 3 chains is the fastest way to level jobs.
>>331350667
That's not exactly right, it's assumed he's a space time cop with Airy from some extra art that was just released recently with him and Airy doing something no one can understand
It's not really explained in the game what the fuck he's doing there.
Which is one reason it's kind of a mess, but what can you do.
>>331350345

Just because you know what's broken doesn't mean you have to use it. Is someone pointing a gun to your head or something and forcing you to break the game?
>>331350130
Magnolias catchphrase to show off her foreignness, the translators liked it so much they decided to keep it on Yew even when changing Magnolias language
>>331350775
I can't handle any fights with Yew drained of all BP because he's the only one (Wizard) who can take out the enemies before they crush me.
I really hate my team. Yew kicks ass but whatever, no finesse, just blowing shit up.
Edea is completely worthless, using normal attacks with triple equip and never ever using Trample because the enemy just attacks her first for 80% of her life.
Magnolia is the dedicated healer and she fucking sucks at it because her spells take two turns and she can't take a hit. Also she's completely worthless on offense/random encounters so there you go.
Come to think of it, Tiz isn't bad. The fencer attacks do a lot of damage and for some reason he's always the last guy to die. In fact, why the fuck does my party have two women in the first place
>>331350886
Yes I didn't grind, did you read "i got slapped with so much JP and EXP I had to turn it off?" THIS WAS FROM NORMAL COUNTERS WHEN I WAS ROAMING IN THE DUNGEONS FOR THE QUESTS IN CHAPTER 5
I did not change the encounter rate, I was getting fucking 100+ JP per fight, sometimes even 200 if I had to do two rounds. I'm not fucking kidding.
>Just because you know what's broken doesn't mean you have to use it.
Pretty much every decent combo is a broken combo, stupid.
>>331350358
Honestly, what was the Japanese version of this gravy business? Also, did moon people speak French in the Japanese version?
>>331350537
I'll admit I liked Mrgrgr and Unacceptable, but this just seems silly.
Also, what happened to the music? Did they lose the rights to the victory theme and Asterisk fights theme? This OST is completely underwhelming when compared to BD
>>331351331
>Also, did moon people speak French in the Japanese version?
They speak English since that's the 'fancy foreign language' over in Japan. Magnolia's VA is actually decent at English which is pretty damn rare, try switching to Japanese sometime. It's pretty silly how off many lines are though, she may something like 'it's amazing' (in English) but the translation is 2-3 lines long and contains both French and English.
>>331351331
It's not REVO working on the music, they did BD and did a fantastic job.
The new guys aren't half as good. You do hear the old BD tunes during the sub quests though.
>>331351264
I try to level my jobs equally and haven't really looked up any broken combos yet. I tend to have to turn random encounters of way before i get broken amounts of exp because i run out of mana on the healer.
So far it's decently challenging, though my specials are kind of broken since i maxed out the moonbase now.
>>331351331
>Also, did moon people speak French in the Japanese version?
I don't know for sure, but it's most likely that they speak English since that's what the japs do when they want to make someone sound high class, which is usually localized ass using French in the West
>>331351228
Looks like you are on level according to those jobs. Just farm on sea, easy as fuck you can chain 3 and more easily since everything is weak to lightning and some to sword/dagger.
>>331351264
Yes, I'm calling bullshit that you maxed Freelancer, Charioteer, Time Mage, Wizard and Bishop coincidentally just by playing "normally".
I do acknowledge that I was getting lots of EXP and JP at later stages of the game, but not the ridiculous extent you are claiming where you accidentally and totally non-purposely maxed up all the jobs that gave you the most broken combinations this time. Just admit that you were looking to break the game from the get go and that's it.
>Pretty much every decent combo is a broken combo
Except no. Were you playing in easy by any chance? That would explain why every half-decent job combo seemed broken to you.
>Want to know something though? BD had it's broken ass shit but the fights at the end got so tough it forced you to experiment, BS doesn't even bother to do that.
I agree with you here as well. The new Asterisks gimmicks simply weren't challenging.
Hell, the fights I had the most difficulty with were the ones where the bosses had mooks, specially the old asterisk ones. Those mook hit like trucks for some reason.
>>331351619
More than half of why I liked BD so much was because of the music. Shame to hear it isn't up to snuff.
I remember thinking that the original Asterisk battle theme from the BS demo was pretty garbage, but it grew on me. Then I heard the remix they went with in the official release and lost all hope.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkx78ZCBpl0
To be completely honest, I thought the original Asterisk battle theme from BD was a little out of place during certain fights (namely Braev and Alternis), and that something like this would have suited them better.
>>331351618
Should've known. It was the same for Mitsuru from P3.

A team with Janne and Ringabel would be god tier. Probably won't happen.
>>331367684
Haven't played Second yet cause I'm an NAcuck but he does look pretty based.
>>331367830
Just pirate it.
Word of warning though, Janne's character falls apart once Chapter 5 hits. Though in his defense the writing in general does.
But it's pretty disappointing.
At least fan art makes up for what could have been.

There's also that online manga for the game adaptation with major differences. Atermia, Einheria, and that summoner fight together instead of separately against Edea.

Gameplay. The story was neat but honestly I just liked building up my special snowflake party.
>>331374884
Yes... A cropped boxart from the Magnolia's artwork.
I hate the Tiz boxart, but I hate more the cheap euro boxart. At least, the USA boxart is like the japanese one.
>>331376289
Then play Bravely Second, it has tons of new stuff to play around with
>>331376289
BS is more of the same gameplay, the story is horrible and rewrites the old characters to borderline caricatures of themselves or just plain out of character.
So if you think you'll be able to handle that, go for it.

Does anyone else see breasts in the thumbnail?
From what I gather, Bravely Second is essentially the same exact game, with very very slight mechanic changes that's just more Quality of Life improvements than anything else, also the jobs are even more broken
Is the future Bravely games just gonna make the jobs stupid broken as a staple instead of balanced so people can just fuck around with combinations?
>>331379069
Part of the charm the countered the mediocre gameplay was a decent story. BD's story wasn't that bad in terms of JRPG shit.
BS completely ruined that. I honestly don't see a reason to continue the series if they don't bring the original writers back or at the very least, REVO.
So is the gimmick of the subtitle for the game beingFriendslayer?

The only good thing to come from Bravely Default is the comic where Ringabel and Tiz are having a conversation about how something is off about Airy and her wings have a fuckton of numbers on them

Just starting playing. How did this game not get slammed on release for the farmville city creation and SP microtransaction shit?
I'm liking it though.
>>331381119
If the only problem you have with Bravely Default is the repeating fights, then BS should be fine. There's only one "repeat" and you skip all the horseshit on the sidequests. You also can't get all jobs on the first go, so the loop lets you pick up the others.
>>331383693

It's literally just set and forget. SP Microtransactions aren't even relevant really, you get them for free every 8 hours, and to need them THAT bad you're so far beyond casual that you deserve to lose money. But yes, people were butthurt about the SP thing for about a day.
They should make a new job where its ability is the user gets more powerful the more people across the world is using said job with same character so I can break the game even further
who the fuck cares about balance
>>331384953
What's the point of the video game if it doesn't even feel like you're playing it?
>>331361467
>Personally I gimp myself in all games because I enjoy the challenge.
And I think you're fucking retarded and a literal cancer on gaming because you're using this to apologize for bad games that won't hold up to a player that's going balls to the wall while you've obviously never played a game that does.
You can tell me all about how 'casual' I am when you ascend in Nethack and start playing with conducts but I'd literally bet money on you not being able to do it.
>>331384953
You can't break the game any further than BD and BS already are. Plus the fun is being creative in breaking it.
>>331384953
>Job: dimensionalist
>ability: Unity: stats raised by 0.01% for every person in the world using the same job with the same character
>gimmick: every skill is dependent on how many people in the whole world is having the character use this job
Why there is so much fanart of yew, Magnolia and the traitors? Are all them from when the demo first came out?
>>331385337
>0.01%
>0.01 x 500,000 = 5000
>+5000 to every stat
okay
>>331385801
Even 0.001% would still be pretty strong if there were enough people using the job.
But that's kind of the kicker, isn't it? That there has to be a lot of people using the job.
I really was looking forward to BD2. Shame I had to cancel my pre-order over recent developments.
I guess I'll pick it up on sale when it's like $10. It's still giving them money they don't deserve, but long after the point where they're really looking at sales figures for it anyways.
>>331386987
>Shame I had to cancel my pre-order over recent developments.
Why? If it's a game you're looking forward to, then get it.
>>331388243
I can't support NoA or the localization team with what they allowed to happen to the game. They went a step too far. I actually sent an e-mail to both NoA and NoJ about it, something I haven't done before.
I know both actions will ultimately result in nothing. They've been this way for a long time, and are just getting slightly worse with it each passing year. Maybe if enough people do it something will change though.
>>331388658
Well you officially wasted your time because NoA isn't even translating the game, it's Square Enix and some obscure localization team they used during Bravely Default's localization. There is a shit ton of reason of reasons why you could have canceled your pre order considering BS is a trainwreck of ideas that don't work yet you cancel it for censorship of all things? That's the least of BS's problems and can easily be fix with the uncensored patch.
>>331388658
Nintendo didn't touch the sidequest dialogue. You're emailing the wrong people. Nintendo censored the outfits, Square Enix changed the sidequests based on Japanese player feedback. Which, in reality, has very little impact on the game itself. I'd LIKE to have that dialogue, sure, but even knowing it was missing didn't hamper my recent experience of playing it. I loved BD and greatly enjoyed BS. Not buying the game won't send them the message of "stop censoring", it'll send them the message of "I don't care about this series". Get the game if you want to play it.
>>331333675
BS didn't ruin any of them. The problem is that Tiz without Agnes and Edea without Ringabel don't create as many interesting interactions. Yew was alright, liked him better than Tiz but he would have been better with Janne in the main party. Magnolia should have been more flirtatious, teasing Yew.
>>331389106
I'd hardly consider it a waste of time since NoA and NoJ at least partially control said developments. SE and the localization team don't get to decide on literally everything.
I feel that if you're going to lament a situation, however, that you should do what you can to correct it. Emailing the parties involved, and not buying the product, is literally the only thing I can do. I'll look up the email for SE and the development team in a bit, as you have made a correct statement that they should be included.
>>331389156
It does both, admittedly it does the latter more than the former. Eventually, hopefully, they'll see a correlation between lower sales and games with more content unnecessarily changed.
If they don't ever make that correlation, in the end it won't matter for either of us, I suppose. Nintendo has enough money to live on until I'm old and gray, and I have plenty of other genres and games to play.
>>331389156
>Square Enix changed the sidequests based on Japanese player feedback
This is a straight up PR bullshit. Here's the thing: about the JP version:
Since the very first in a series of demos appeared for the first game, the developers used the feedback to improve the game for it's release. Then they made two more versions of the original. Then they used a massive survey to take in improvements for the sequel. Then they used the feedback's from the sequel's demo to improve that and got increasingly more feedback before it's release. Then they released a patch after the game was released in Japan. IN ALL OF THESE TIMES, NOTHING WAS TAKEN OUT OF BRAVELY DEFAULT OR SECOND. (With the rare exception of some voice data in a Free to play version of the game. Yes, Bravely Default is F2P now in JP).
It seems awfully suspicious that they wouldn't release a patch for Japanese players if that was the case. There's no way, considering how they handled the bravely series to that point, that wouldn't have been a thing to do.
>>331389610
NoJ didn't even TOUCH Bravely Second, really. They promoted it but they aren't even publishers, they say as much as any other 3rd party 3DS game that hits the system. Nintendo publishes Bravely in Euro and America, and that's it (Hence the costume changes in both). Square even issued a statement recently themselves about the changes, there isn't any grey lines. It was a Square Enix change. If Nintendo was just trying to wave its censor wand then there's a LOT of shit they left untouched. Regardless of it's it PR on squeenix part or not like >>331391465 says, it was definitely their doing.
Also, releasing a patch that would outright remove content would go over even WORSE, if anything. It's much more "subtle" to just do it overseas only.
Boy, I can't wait to hear CENSORSHIP plastered everywhere anytime an RPG is released this year. Looking forward to OPERATION LUNAR ECLIPSE when Pokemon comes out.
Okay so is the Alternis Dim in Bravely Second also Ringabel or what?
I played through like 80% of Bravely Default so I know about Alternis being Ringabel but is the Bravely Second version also Ringabel or is it someone entirely different?
>>331392995
Yes and no.
The one that saves Edea from Yoko in the steam place then gets injured is Ringabel. Everytime you see Alternis with the bow tied around his arm after, that's him.
>>331393193
But do they all look like Ringabel under the helmet?
>>331393392
Well yes.
