Thankfully Wild Hunt is still one of the best looking games out there. Shame about the downgrade. Guarantee the engine was choking hard with the original lighting and extremely far rendering LOD. Maxed out with tweaks in the current form, looking good as it does, it still hits the GPU really hard. Especially at any post1080p resolutions. I'm guessing the high asset density, high geometry density, coupled with 100% seamless open world traversal, interior rendering, asset streaming, and full real time lighting cycles caused the original build to shit its pants on anything other than SLI.
Dark Souls 2 hurts more, because the change impacted the original vision for the game, which was to have dark/light play an integral role in exploration and encounters. It was an underlining theme of both the presentation and game design, and the entire thing had to be gutted when the engine's real time lighting/shadow system shit its pants on PS3/360 hardware.
I mean, the game had a bunch of problems elsewhere too, but a part of me is really disappointed we'll never see the original full vision.

They even advertised what the game looked like BEFORE it came out unlike FromSoft. CDPR are some of the most morally respectable devs in the industry, so many leagues ahead of anyone else in terms of integrity and honesty.
They could have just kept the 2 year old footage and called it a day, but they sucked it in and showed people what they were buying; and made the GOAT that will stand for centuries as the benchmark for quality design.
