The Wii-U tablet is... surprisingly comfortable to use. It's not super heavy and it's pretty ergonomic, it has the dedicated buttons, but it also has the screen for literally whatever you fucking want.

You have to understand -- Microsoft and Valve have already outflanked them with their controllers in the "traditional" controller space. Whether you like the Steam controller trackpads or not, it's a logical direction for "traditional" controllers to go. Ditto for the paddle/grip buttons on the back.
Nintendo has no real agency whatsoever in the traditional gaming sphere anymore. The base of people who will buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games only is shrinking. Long time Nintendo fans have moved onto other systems because they no longer feel like buying hardware just for Zelda and Metroid [if Nintendo feels like it]. Even Smash tournaments are often done on Gamecube versions of the franchise.
Nintendo really has no choice but to attack from other directions.

That would be correct though, the PS3 WAS failure. Sony managed through huge effort to salvage something from the whole debacle, but make no mistake it was a debacle. The PS4 shows what the PS3 SHOULD have looked like in terms of sales: outselling the PS2. The world market has gotten bigger, not smaller.
In contrast Nintendo has had the Wii and DS as blips and that's it. Otherwise literally everything else they have made has sold worse. The N64 sold worse then the SNES, the GC sold worse then the N64, the Pii U has sold worse then dogshit and is about to get mercy killed. Nintendo is all over the place, they happened to get lucky once but they didn't understand WHY that was and in turn why that market position would not last. Hello neo/v/. I love my PS3 and it was by far the best console of last gen, but you were clearly in elementary school when it came out and have no idea what the first 3 years at least were like, plus you're too stupid to go look up PS2, PS3, and PS4 sales numbers per month from launch date.
"Failure" in this sense means in terms of ROI and expected vs actual returns for Sony given the investment and capex that went into the thing. There is a reason Krazy Ken got fired over it you dumb faggot. It had some good nuggets, but mostly it was a salvage job, and that they did salvage it is a genuine testament to incredible hard work and skill all around at Sony. That's no substitute for being well designed from the start though. The PS4 is most of what the PS3 should have been and clearly embodied hard won lessons. Hopefully Sony can keep it up and not fall back into bad habits with the PS5.

Yep. The mere launch of the PS3 at all was a salvage job really, they didn't originally intend to have a GPU at all for example the Cell was supposed to be capable of everything, but it woefully failed to meet expectations and was also hot and huge. Stuff like cramming in the RSX with split memory was done late in the process out of sheer necessity. It made everything bigger, more expensive, and harder to develop for. Even at 599 US DOWARS they lost money on it for a while until fabrication improvements and engineering eventually helped get the BOM under control, but it still wiped out a lot of what they'd gotten from the PS2.
All told IIRC Sony, IBM, and I think Toshiba was the third partner?, but Sony as part of the alliance sunk something like $1.1 billion dollary doodoos into that arch and it was a fucking bomb. It briefly lived on in an upgraded version as an accelerator board but even that is long dead, IBM ended up going with pure POWER etc. What Sony ultimately made the PS3 do is fucking amazing given what they were up against but it was still a big fail for them.

What the fuck are Nintendo doing? In terms of Software they are among the best developers out there but their hardware just makes me not want to buy their consoles. All they would need to do is make a powerful console with a regular controller. Just have a pro controller with analog triggers and the job is done.
The PS4 is now 2 or 3 years old and it was weak even when it came out, it wouldn't be difficult to make a more powerful console.

...It's a tech demo to show off the hardware's capabilities. What makes it so difficult to believe that Epic would just use one of their own prebuilt tech demos over making a custom demo specifically for Nintendo? The latter uses a ton of resources that they don't to need to waste. And Epic did this before by releasing an UE4 tech demo for the PC, and then letting Sony show off the same tech demo in their E3 presentation, albeit watered down. I'm not understanding your logic here.
