I feel Trigger is the superior Chrono game. The fact that they made a sequeal implies that the events of Trigger are superfluous.

Chrono Cross's story, is like someone telling a lie. Nearly getting caught, so they tell a lie in order to cover for the previous lie. But the new lie doesn't make sense, so they make up another lie to make sense out of that lie. And they keep telling lies to try and justify their previous lies.
Until finally, they get backed into a corner, where all their lies are about to crumble. So they go all out, and tell the most fantastical, nonsensical story ever told. That somehow wraps all of their bullshit together.
You, the person being lied to, just KNOW they're full of shit. But the lie has become so complex and convoluted, that you just stop caring.
