Wolffags, Lasherfags, can't we all just coexist in harmony?
We live yet again!
Finally getting my fleet rolling. This becomes an entirely different game for me once battles get large enough. Long, drawn out engagements where the final fights are just twisted hunks of metal working desperately to keep systems online.
Accumulating money to purchase a battleship. Or just something bigger than a cruiser. I'm fairly wing-heavy too, so I'm thinking a battle-carrier would be nice. Though a dedicated combat ship is not out of the question.
Recommendations? I'm playing with a bunch of mods too, so anything goes.

>Astral and 2 Geminis
How many fighter wings do you have? I hardly see any to match the amount of flight decks you have fielded.
I'm making a personal portrait pack. Does it have to be 128x128 exactly or can the game accept off-pixel perfect ratios?
>>331270790
I didn't even have enough fighters at the time to fully justify an Astral. I think the Astral had like no weapons so I threw the Geminis in as escorts and fire support with missiles.
I just wanted to deploy everything I had, really.
>>331266171
I actually fleet ahead and got one. Ooh baby, missile spam for days. Loaded it up with micromissiles in all missile slots + the 20 it comes with. Now that's a whole lot of diddly!
I don't even have it fully kitted out yet and it kicks ass. I've got an Autocannon and some small mount recursers or whatever the small mount kinetic weapon for Diable is. Put Point Defense hull mod in, as well as advanced turrets, and they swat fighters like flies.
Shoulda saved up more before buying though, I'm feeling the hurt supplies-wise.
>>331271138
I see, shit dude you had a lot on your hands there. But at least having an Astral encourages you to spam fighter wings, since it can support a dozen easy.
>>331268826
People say Mountband Blade in space, but I think a more apt comparison is Mad Max in space (the movie not the game).
You have different factions that you interact with in a campaign mode with various destinations, terrain, and other fleets (convoys, war parties, raiders).
Combat is its own real-time, top down projectile combat. Outside of combat, you can customize your bitchin space rides to fulfill roles in your fleet. Customization includes weapons and hull modifications to affect various aspects of your craft, and those piloted by your allies.
>>331269912
SS+, and I believe there is a stand-alone version on the mod forums as well.
I'm feeling a single-player Mount & Blade type game. At the moment I'm eying this and Battle Brothers. Is this one still waiting on important features? Does it run well? How autistic is it?
Feed me (you)'s and save your thread.
>>331271761
Nothing you just said has any connection with Mad Max. People are calling it M&B in Space because it is.
>>331271981
As far as I know the only thing missing now mechanically is the "build your base" related stat and skills. A mod enables it somewhat but it's juryrigging at best. I also don't know if it's going to get 4x stuff but a mod managed to whip one up.
What's up with Battle Brothers now? It's in my wishlist.
>>331272840
Battle Brothers seems to have gotten a big update to its overworld map system recently as well as some new quest types. Looks a bit to early for me to commit but it also seems to be shaping up nicely. I think that given a bit longer for refinement it'll probably me worth the money.

When you go to load the save type -no-bounties after the LoadSave so it should look like "LoadSave -no-bounties" plus whatever load modifiers you want to add. This should have your IBB bounties and regular bounties start at baseline.

-Templars

-Neutrino
-New Galactic Order
-PACK
-Scy
-Shadowyards
-Pegasus Belt Council
-TiaDONG
and I've yet to see one faction completely steamroll, a faction or two might get beat up on by alliances or what not but nothing major.
From my experience the balance of power only starts to shift once the player intervenes.
>>331277094
As far as I know ship captains are not counted for salary in ss+ only marines and crew (crew salary being more or less depending on their experience level)
>>331277242
well I got appro blackrock diablo and neutrino I hear appro is pretty op but I only use them for the freighters that spawn you food
>>331277475
Yeah I'm not sure about appro, never played with them because I didn't like the look even as a faction to just have populate the universe and shoot at. If they are super overpowered it might cause problems. You can always just play god and fix things with the console if it gets out of hand.
>>331278078
like I said I only use them for a freighter that spawns free food its like printing credits
>>331278275
The faction itself might run rampant if they are as broken as I people say they are. One of the thing that keeps templars in check is their single starting market and being at war with literally everyone. But if they are super powerful and act like a regular faction they could possibly wreck factions one by one
25-35 ship fleet size is too fucking small
not all of the damn ships are combat yet they contribute to max fleet size
if i mess with the settings configuration file will the AI ship fleets spawn to bigger sizes as well
>>331278549
I personally haven't seen Appro-Light go insane and start fighting everyone, they don't seem to invade often in my saves but when they do they're pretty successful against other factions.
I imagine if they were hostile to all like KT, the moment they're in a system outside of Augustin they'll eventually take over or constantly kill other patrols.
>>331279554
I've got my max ships set to 80 just so I don't need to worry about ever reaching it. To date I have not encountered any crazy NPC fleets so it either doesn't affect them or if it does the game doesn't or can't go crazy with it.
>>331279554
I agree the ship limit is fucking bad, I edited it to 50 because I like support ships and I should be able to bring whatever I want as long as I can support it. But I don't think AI fleets have a limit to how much they can have. The only time they go insane is if you play with mods and get vengeful fleets chasing you.
>>331279554
>>331279794
Actually looking at the game files it seems like fleet composition is taken care of by the .faction files so yeah modifying the config should only affect you.

>>331280114
It has it's charms. I've played a few Nex games with maxed planets and stations and really enjoyed it. But the world is kind of bland I guess, since its randomly generated. Playing in corvus mode where shit is placed somewhere on purpose is neat, I'd give it a try at least once.
>>331280150
If you want big battles you can up the battle size in the settings.json just seach for maxBattleSize and set it to whatever number. Then in the ingame settings adjust the slider to the amount you want. I've got mine set to 800 so basically every ship in a fleet fights it gets pretty crazy.
>>331280114
Corvus mode. Random generated sectors are cool but price generation can fuck you royally when supply baseline is set to 200.
>>331280557
>800
Would be mind-blowing if my toaster could have a battle like that go on at a buttery smooth 60 FPS, especially against screen filling fleets like Diable.
>>331280643
does crew charge you when in storage?
>>331280557
Not the same anon but increasing battle size sounds cool. Always seemed kinda silly to not be able to fit every ship into the combat map.
Can you increase the fleet limit with file edits too?
>>331281067
No only crew/marines in your fleet will accrue payment. It basically gets canceled out once you start getting a salary from a commission or joining a faction. It just makes the start a little more difficult I guess.
>>331281019
I don't think even high end hardware could run at a solid 60fps. I don't have a super-computer, but it's definitely not a toaster. Some fights still turn into slideshows. Still fun though. Almost like a commander relaying order through radar.
>>331277469
apparently ship captains cost a shitton in ss+
>>331281171
If you're running ss+ find the settings.json in Starsector\mods\Starsector Plus\data\config
search for maxShipsInFleet and modify the number there to change how many ships you can have
search for maxBattleSize and modify the number there to change the max slider value, you then have to adjust the slider yourself ingame for it to take effect.
If you aren't running ss+ then just modify the settings.json in the base game files.
>>331281562
Do they? Is it a config option you need to turn on? I'm playing with ss+ right now and my crew salaries are about what I would expect for a fleet my size and it hasn't seemed to have gone up as I recruited officers to fill in slots.
>>331281668
5 level 20s and a level 9 cost more then 100000 credits a year 59 marines 11800 159 regular crew 15900

Yeah I know... I'll ditch the High Maintenance at some point, and I'm thinking about having ships a tiny bit more expensive to field but with reduced monthly cost. After all they are supposed to be able to scout on long distance avoiding needless combats.
>>331291518
It'd be cool if there was a hullmod or skillindustry skills neverthat reduced supply cost but for ships affected by high maintenance only to stop it from being overpowered combined with leadership and fleet logistics. Call it durable parts of something. Hell if you wanted to balance it even further you could make supply cost to repair more while it was using the hullmod, cheaper maint but if you get smashed up you pay through the nose.
Of course I have no idea if any of that is even possible with modding, I've never really looked into it.
>>331292556
That.... Is a very interesting idea. And totally doable right now as a hullmod.
>>331292556
The whole point of High maintenance is to stop you from running around and ROFL stomping normally though, the ships running it basically have to be running around and shooting all the time or be used to beeline towards a boss bounty or response fleet.
>>331292863
Indeed, but a hullmod that reduce all stats by 10%, reduce the peak efficiency time, and raise the deployment cost by 25% while removing half the extra maintenance could be interesting too.
>>331293092
There is a mod like that, it's called logistic conservation and AI core that strips your ship of most combat stats and halves their maintenance. I usually dump it on all my freighter and carriers.
>>331293234
In Starsector+ I mean, you should have it since you are talking about mod factions and most of their High Maintenance.
>>331292863
What I mean is: High-maintenance is meaningless at high level because you fight much more often than once per month and the main driving cost is the deployment cost, not the heightened monthly cost. On the other hand it is very punishing early because you have to pick your fights and do not swim in money. A hullmod that reverse slightly this behavior could be helpful early game while not interesting later on.
Has anybody got the download and crack for Starsector?
>>331293403
But High maintenance are not available on early game ships. I don't see how that's going to help much in my early game.

And where do I find appropriate enemies? I just started in the Corvus system with a Lasher and a Kite. Couldn't find any small pirate fleets and eventually was caught by a group of 4 wolfs and a bigger ship I don't know.
Was blown to bits and now I'm sitting in a combat freighter with 4k credits, about to restart.
Should I just pick the easy start for now?
>>331297159
If its not lagging/glitching, it should be working.
Nexerelin and SS+ aren't really conversion rather than extensions. And they can both work together.
Go to hyper, there is always plenty enemies in hyper.
Easy is only worth for the first try to familiarize yourself with the mechanics without dying all the time.
Is there any way to raise relationship with the pirates after you are vengeful with them? I can't even do quests for them any more. And it's bullshit they attack you and you still lose rep with them.
>tfw have 5 Talons, 5 Broadswords, 5 Gladius, 5 Claymores, 5 Thunders, but only one real carrier (two rooks)
I want shiny ships only...
Also I have lost so many good ships after going iron mode. Two Cronus cruisers, two medusas, one of those shiny carriers, a shiny sunder, a beholder... I might forget some. I still have over 3 million dosh. Might be because of this Nex economy, supplies cost ~20. And I've never bothered with marines, so expensive even here.
There's times when I do alt + f4 instantly though, like losing a fight because an ally near me didn't join for whatever reason. Or running into a huge fleet I didn't realize was hostile. I have officers out the ass and nobody bothered to remind me? Yeah, wouldn't happen, that's how I justify it. Wars come and go so fast I can't keep up.
Then there's that time when my Kestrel immediately blew up from a single hit to my engines. IDK what the fuck it was, there was nothing but friendlies behind me. I suspect a friendly missile running out of fuel - my character is such a badass that all the ships in the fleet get increased everything, but I can't modify missiles to explode after running out of fuel? >>331295718

>>331304136
Only the Raven has slightly better hull and armor than a Wolf, and no shield. It also cost just as much to deploy per fighter (twice as much for the wing of two, up to eight times as much if you loose every one of them from 100%CR), and four times more to buy. Strifes have the same hull and armor as Wolves, the rest is just above the Warthog's stats. They aren't weak at all, but for the logistic cost and the few replacements per battle, they better be. If I were to make them weaker, I'd have to make them cheaper too.
For reference: A Wolf is 1500 hull and 150 armor, a Warthog is 750/125, there isn't much margin there.
The Scyan Phase-ship will be removed soon, as well as a few other ships. But since it will break saves, I'd rather wait until having put together a more consequent update (the redesign update maybe?).
>>331303684
Diable is ridiculously unbalanced, anyone who says otherwise is wrong.
>>331305254
> It also cost just as much to deploy per fighter (twice as much for the wing of two, up to eight times as much if you loose every one of them from 100%CR), and four times more to buy
I don't think that matters much for the bots. Unless you cheese their CR.
>>331305369
Okay, let's hear it, what would you change?
>>331305462
Nothing, the mod is fundamentally unbalanced because fighter wings are fundamentally unbalanced. The mod isn't going to be balanced until Alex overhauls fighter wings like he plans to, currently they're just a placeholder.
Diable is basically just a super thick bandaid. Giving fighters frigate tier stats is not the way to make them viable and Alex knows this.
>>331305449
It matters in the sense that they will have only one Diable wing where they'd have two vanilla wings for the same "level" of carrier fleet. Also the time to recover CR after losses is the same for both the player and the AI, and loosing just one fighter will put a big dent in a Diable wing.
Of course it would be better if the logistic cost would matter for the AI too but that won't happen in vanilla.
>>331305696
So if they are "fundamentaly unbalanced" are they Overpowered or Underpowered?
>>331305131
But I like having a singular theme, anon.

How many fighter wings per carrier flight deck? My Gust has a single flight deck and it's fielding a single Valiant wing. I'm thinking of buying a Maelstrom with like 3 or 4 decks (I think?) so I have no idea how many wings I can or should field. Is it just one per deck or can you have more?

What kind of weapons am I supposed to put on the Scarab I started with? This standard layout is fucking dogshit.
>>331315127
If it's equipped with a heavy autocannon or a needler it has more than enough juice to overload any shield in the game and then that ship has no choice but to eat a bag of dicks from everything.
It's just not good design. Scarab is different since it doesn't have any ballistic hardpoints so it has to mostly rely on energy damage.
So these general pirate bounties where a faction pays you for killing random ships, is there an easy way of finding them?

Reapers are anti-capital torpedoes. Atropos is enough to one shot most frigates which is what you'll be hunting anyway and the tracking helps a lot against some of the smaller ones.
Also, does anyone feel like 0.7.2a made AI much more suicidal? My ships are aggressively venting right in front of the enemy rather than disengaging first and it's getting them nearly killed pretty often.

I'm the same way. Love Diable for their missiles. Cruisers and larger ships are great too. I find some of the smaller classes like the Calm and Draft lacking though.
I'll admit, goving their fighters frigate stats is a bit cheesy. I'm phasing out My Wanzers for assorted non-Diable bombers (personal house rules for fun), and I'm liking it a lot more. Much more offensive capabilities against hostile capitals too. And they don't chew up as much supplies for replacements.
Use micromissiles to keep PD busy and send in the bomber wings.
Using a Maelstrom as my flagship, got it kitted out with Recursers and Grave HMGs. Gave it range boosts and I feel like a Battlestar with the amount of ballistics it throws out.
Also, Integrated Targeting unit or Dedicated Targeting core? Looking for others opinions.
>>331328910
I hope you're putting this up in the mod forums or something.
How do Nex and SS+ change the start options? I don't want to use the easy one in vanilla, my biggest issue with the normal one is the very small amount of money you start with.
If I don't find pirates with a bounty on their heads fast enough, I just run out of money for fuel/sups.

You can load up a shitload of higher-DPS short range guns so you can be an autofire berserker
Or you can slap long guns on one side for arty, and short range guns on the other for close-in punching
Or a mix of heavy guns and PD on both sides for Balanced Human Warrior mode
>>331328652
If you are talking about the Conquest it's way too OP intensive to load up both sides with equally powerful weapons. It's best to focus the big guns on one side and load up the other with point defense and smaller weapons to drive of Frigates and maybe Destroyers.
>>331328647

If the faction is actually updated to 0.72 can I assume it will work with the current SS+ version?
>>331345330
Yes, the SS+ page is just outdated.
What's is the best way to get going in a game that is both using SS+ and Nex? Just join some OP faction like Blackrock and shit on everybody?
>>331346098
Start with a single frigate and go solo
Question: If I take over Jangala as Diable, will the market eventually start producing Diable ships and weapons?
>>331346196
Where do you even go from there? The ships's shit and there's not that many pirate bounties as many of the x amount per ship are tied to factions paying to kill other factions.
>>331346642
yes
I finally made it in this game. Got a big enough fleet together to be a force of nature in the sector.
Can't test the boyz against Templar though, keep getting crashes. From what I can tell from the forum post it isn't fixed yet either (though admittedly I checked up on it last week).
Think it's time to start a new save. Gonna give Shadowyards a try, see what's up with energy weapons too. Been using primarily ballistics and missiles, so I feel it's time to change up the lightshow.
Who wants to give me some starting conditions? Or fun restrictions to follow?
What exactly is that Corvus mode doing to the game?
>>331346847
Look for bounties that give cash per kill. Find a raider group. Zap a pirate and retreat. You don't need to kill them all or overcommit to get reward money.
Smuggle small quantities of high-value goods. Organs, drugs, supplies if the price is right.
Solitary frigate is a slow start. Hang in there.
>>331346991
Coolio, now time to wait.
>10% market turnover
Jeezus, time to wait a lot.
>>331347858
Uses the vanilla sector + systems added by mods.
Otherwise everything is randomly generated.
>>331347658
Beautiful female officers only.
>>331347658
>>331348818
Also, when you assign them to a ship, it's permanent. They go down with the ship - if they survive, you dismiss them. The name of their ship will be their name.
Give them names that you love. It's your harem. You will fall in love with it.
And then they will all die.
>>331348818
>waifu fleet is a go
Is it gay that I think the thought of women violating me with long and powerful lasers is a major turn on?i just want to be dominated by a hard-ass veteran of war
>>331349062
I like this idea. I'll post some updates later when I'm not on my phone.
Harem fleet here. Starting options?
>>331349802
Your cyborg ruined my impression of a man in despair over their lost waifus.
Has nobody ever resized the character pictures from that hentai game? Those portraits are great.
>>331349802
Either small or solo. Gotta work if you want the ladies.
>>331350407
>that hentai game
Was being funny part of your plan?
What do you all think of mining? Decent moneymaker or not worth it? Thinking of investing in it so I have something to do while I wait around for things to happen.
>>331350585
What are you on about?
>>331350752
Son, there are hundreds of hentai games out there with great portraits.

This one obviously, it was used by some asshole in these threads who wouldn't share his folder and eventually people figured out which game it was.
>>331350048
>hating on cyborgs
He still has a human heart you insensitive hooligan.
Plus, the ladies love that robo-chode.
>>331329968
To be honest I don't like the setting. I'd rather side with the big bad guy and pretend it's a Black Company vidya. Oh well, c'est la vie~
>>331348268
Market turnover is 33-50% per month yo.
I want a nuclear torpedo boat that goes 300 and cant slow down or turn well.
Release too late and you'll crash into the enemy or into your explosion, release too early and you'll waste ammo.
>>331352365
Interstellar Imperium has you covered then.
>>331350646
I use it when I am low on ash, dem scy miners are great. They can even be used as carriers, and have 8 continually replenishing drones that push enemy ships away
>>331352365Falken
>>331355996
dominator AI is a fucking sin, its hardpoints mean that the AI's tendency to turn armor damage away from incoming shots makes it just not shoot a lot of the time, and it overshields making it flux locked
alex should seriously custom-write ai for certain ships in the future, just override it
>>331356475
I'm talking about the Vindicator
The Gungnir has like 2000 range yet he is flying into close range
>>331353254
wait really
are those modded in?
Guys quick question, when a new version comes out do I have to completely delete all files pertaining to the game before I update, or can I just start downloading the new version and it'll just replace the old one?
>Start Blackrock
>get Scorpion
>okay should be cool
>get kited all day by shielded Lashers going in reverse 30 units faster than me while my own frigates get torn apart off to the side
Well this was pretty shit
>>331357280
it will delete and replace
>>331358640
Thanks a lot
>>331358529
>not letting the AI pilot the scorpion while you fuck shit up in a brdy frig
anon pls
>>331358640
What about vparams, jre and replaced/added stuff like portraits?
>>331359137
when i uninstalled completely one time it wiped away everything in the file folder including all the mods without asking
i dunno what would happen when installing over an older version of the base game but that draws slight pause
i'd totally assume they write over the vparams and jre folder though, so do that whole process over again
>>331359029
Which one to get?
>>331360470
Mantis is kinda hard to fly but very powerful
Weevil is easier but slow, fucks other frigates hard though
Locust is less powerful but very mobile and quite tanky
Robberfly = lel option
Is the Versant the ship that people say is really rare?
>>331360832
Mantis' layout feels weird, with the big gun on one side. Not a fan.
Weevil is indeed a heavy hitter, but holy balls it is so slow. Also no spare room for mods because GUNS GUNS GUNS
Locust is durable but doesn't seem to have much of a punch.
Seems like BR just has a kinda weird frigate baseline.
>>331361539
They're all deceptively powerful because the brdy hullmod (fast venting) synergizes so well with a frigate's intended role.
You can also get the Mod Silverfish or Silverfish-B.
>>331360832
Locust is by far the best IMO
Best middle ground of tanky + maneuverable + packs enough punch to kill things when you get behind them
Found a Stheno and deciding on whether or not to buy it. No idea how to outfit it, either, as it looks like it has a lot of energy slots, and I usually use ballistic. Current mods are SS+, Nexerelin, Diable, Templars, and Blackrock.
Get it or no, and how do you outfit it?
