at the moment, no. there aren't enough decent games to justify the price and some of them are already getting locked down by oculus (read:facebook) exclusivity deals.
i'd skip this generation of headset entirely desu.

id get the 390 over ther the 970 any day of the week, 8GB vs 3.5+.5 is no contest really, and if power draws an issue for you then you shouldnt really be building a games machine. As for the vive...im on the fence about this....i really want vr to work but i want to play the games i love with it and a few up and comings, gtaV, battlefield, no mans sky etc....and im not really keen on the idea of relying on mods to do it....so ...maybe wait a while till VR has a real catalogue behind it, but then....if everybody does that there will be no market for VR games and they wont get made....

You'd want either a 980Ti or a R9 Fury.
With a 970 you wont be able to use any MSAA layers at all with this resolution and framerate on games like GTA, Witcher, Star Citizen, ED etc...
You do want high anti-aliasing.

You are in one of the worst times to buy a new GPU
And yes a 970 is lackluster. I can barely hold up with current demanding games, much less at higher resolutions and framerates in VR
But if you are willing to spend well over $1000 on VR go ahead, you seem to like to burn money. I'm also worried about your Vive experience, you seem to have a lot of questions about hardware and whatnot. I wonder if you're able to set up Vive and make games run on it without spending hours on forums or reading guides. Vive is the least user friendly and least plug&play of any HDM, so take than in consideration. It's something you'll need to take care of, and perhaps do some light DIY work or light moddingmay I sugest a PSVR for you
