I have over 100 hours in both Demon and Dark Souls and love them dearly, but Dark Soul's DLC completely broke my opinion of balance and diversity. I tried approaching with a character I'd played the rest of the game full maximum fat roll tank: impossible (for me). I tried approaching with a character I'd played the rest of the game full exclusive sorcery use: impossible (literally, not enough damage). Then for each I simply took off all the gear and equipped whatever 2her I had lying around, upgrading it to +5 or +10 or whatever, and it was nearly a snoozefest.
Fuck this game "design" desu with you family, baka. Lords of the Fallen moved the genre forward better than DS2, and I seriously doubt DS3 is going to be any more relevant. At least From is seriously, legitimately respectable for realizing that they're doing nothing new and ending the series here. For real, this is good shit. And DS3 is what people want. But is this weapon meta bullshit even a discussion?

Did you play DS2? Lances were one of the easiest weapons in the game to parry or backstab versus. It took skill to use them effectively in PvP.
Doesn't look any different in 3 to be honest. If you try spamming that run skill you're just going to get punished.
