the accessories and shit are random but the characters/story aren't so wacky over the top. they are, but 4 takes it to the next level. it doesn't feel cohesive at all, you're just kind of along for the ride too, i feel.

the costume stuff is totally optional. in 4 every character is batshit crazy and some of the events are just totally absurd. 3 is a bit more grounded story wise.

I hate how the ending in 1 drowns you in a horde of enemies. Gets really boring to go through it everytime.
I do like the Meiji setting though and the bittersweet theme of the end of samurai. Probably the best of the series.
