TF2 is a shooter with non standard weapons, OW is more of a FPS/Moba mix that places an equal importance on aiming and ability usage.
On the surface they look similar but gameplay wise they are kinda far apart.

They are simply trying to fit into the void Valve created in the TF2 fanbase's hearts. And successfully so, personally speaking.
Competitive matchmaking will be a joke. The comic takes too much time to end for people to bother. All the last balance updates ruined everything. TF2 is just a far memory.

They're pushing hard for the TF2 audience, and what are Valve doing in response? Basically nothing. At this point TF2 is a bloated mess of a game, quietly placing a competitive mode in the game isn't going to solve the problems people have with it.

It's the best F2P game on the market right now, bar none. Valve could add a feature that stabs you in the balls every time you respawn and people would still be playing it for years after TF3 came out
