It was a meme created during the Brawl release by casuals, making fun of people who still play Melee, but only under specific rulesets.

It might be partly specific to Hax, as he also mentioned getting multiple surgeries to his knee when he was playing Falcon, as coincidental as it could be. Though playing Fox at the level he does certainly doesn't help
and about top players wrecking their hands, I've only really heard of it stopping them from playing for Hax, Mew2king and sometimes Westballz.
