The base version we currently have is pretty shit but the content patches add some cool shit but thanks due to retarded implemantation of mobage tier bullshit like energy for everything you do, even fucking talk in chat. The developer is more concerned in keeping gold sellers out of the game than by delivering a good experiences to the customers, they also have absolutely no idea how to balance classes in this game or we wouldn't have bullshit classes like Rangers and Sorcs running around.
I think it's finally time to quit MMORPG's because it's clearly an Early Access Genre since you usually need to wait years for it to not become shit.

anyways, combat / grinding is fun when you do it with a friend, basically feels like Diablo 3 where you pull in big mob groups and try to kill them as fast as possible with your combos.
haven't encountered any real hard 1v1 enemies yet.
all the profession stuff like fishing, cooking, investment into cities etc. is an alright addition, it's just something else to do than hitting mobs, wich other MMOs really lack.
class talent trees are pretty big, not sure if you eventually get all the skills but i'm pretty sure that your build can vary from some other persons build

It's a sandbox in the sense that end game PvE raids aren't the main focus.
There's tons of shit to do like crafting, fishing, merchandising, territory PvP, guild PvP, etc. that consists of the 'end game'. In that sense, it's a lot more similar to sandbox games, but it'll never reach that level because old sandbox games are kinda shit.

There's absolutely no way to know what you want or not if you can't try out how skills work in PvE and PvP.
Jolt Bolt for Tamer is absolutely shit in PvP and a sure way for anyone to fuck your ass because it gives them a frame to launch a counter attack against you meanwhile in PvE it's god tier because it basically one-shots anything you run into. I fell for the shilling that Jolt Bolt was great in PvP until I realized it's utter shit and that I'm better off speccing into Upward Claw and Throat Burn.

Crafting/fishing/etc. are a means to an end with the player economy, which is a definite sign of a sandbox game. The only problem is that Pearl Abyss seemed to shift away from sandbox design halfway through development, so you get auction houses and shit that stifles the economy. I'm not going to say whether or not that's a good or bad thing (see my SWG example) but it explains why people refer to it as a sandbox since the focus is not just themepark raids.

been doing most professions except for gardening and alchemy properly.

The end game of BDO is basically trying to get filthy rich and holding complete control over large swathes of territory so you can tax the fuck out of everyone and merchant to your heart's content. I think this is the biggest thing it needs since it would push it into sandbox territory by making traders/merchants have ludicrous power.
I'm having fun due to the crafting system being as expansive and complex as it is. And combat is pretty smooth.
