The only vidya film adaptations I can think of are Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia. Too few to form a general opinion.
Generally speaking I don't see the point, especially for something action oriented, a video game is already ten times better since you're actually doing shit instead of just passively watching something. I think it's clear movies will eventually mostly disappear in favour of video games as an entertainment medium. So doing the reverse transformation seems weird, but I suppose it's a way to appeal to what is still a wider audience.

Early 90s at least equalled now. Hollywood has wanted this pie since Pacman. But game makers have no idea how to write for film and filmmakers have no idea what makes games work. It isn't a matter of audience (the number of semi successful game based shows proves that), it's converting WHAT makes a game good that is hard. Who it appeals to is easy.

There's also the thing most people forget that the genre that's mostly known for stories - RPG - tends to be also known for long playtimes which is why making movies out of them is very, very hard. Books are another thing, you can make a decent pulp novel out of typical RPG game.
