For almost a decade now, I've been simply scratching my head when people praise and hype all this AssCreed/FarCry/CoD/etc shit. From all I've seen, read and heard of them, they are super dumbed down, streamlined and single-use only kind of hastily put together products.

Yeah I'm feeling that way too. Been playing a lot of Company of Heroes with the Blitzkrieg mod, Men of War AS2 and I still can sometimes get some fun out of Red Orchestra 2. I just felt there was a bit of a void. Was hoping some big release would give me something new.

xcom 2 is solid. a little bitch in term of optimisation. But turn off v-sync and dial back to fxaa and you will get >60. If not, buy a new pc. The mod scenes allow you to customise the singleplayer how you like now (mostly). Multiplayer is also not bad, but dont get salty if you miss a 95% shot or cant counter cheese strat.
2015 will be a bad year for shooter. But the genre has been too widespread for its own good anyway.

Try Siege, most of the issues from launch are fixed. It at least has an interesting gameplay feature of manipulating cover/environment, there's at least something at the games core that isn't artificial like Far Crys pallet swap or The Divisions grind.
