They actually cared and didn't try to make a reiterative cash grab.
My only gripe is replayability; it's not something I'm dying to replay even though I loved the game. I have a job and other real life responsibilities so it took me around 6-7 weeks to finish the game (completionist).
The game was an actual labor of love from the developers. They respected the franchise, and wanted to give it a proper send off.
But don't think that MGS V being a let down to 95% of people that played it didn't have a big role in that. Bloodborne stemming from a relative niche series and being console exclusive.
Fallout 4 not being Skyrim 2.
Witcher 3 is my GOTY 2015, and one of my favorite games of all time, but garnering the amount of "awards" that it did was also it being at the right place, at the right time.

Is Witcher 3 actually good? I played about 2 hours of Witcher 2 and gave up on it, poor combat and incredibly boring.
I don't even like the game that much but it delivered on all its promises and played reasonably well.

The shit "Go here, kill this" quests had some backstory, well written dialogue.
It had comfy music
"fuck everyone" side quest
"protect your daughter" side quest
It combines everything the new gamer wants, the combat is shit tho

Depends on what you're after, the story is decent for most of the game however the combat is just alright. I can't say it's straight up awful but if you removed some casual features the combat would probably improve. There isn't an incredibly varied amount of choices to make either, most quests boil down into choice A and choice B, with some actions only having some sort of effect later in the game.
Just make sure you look at a synopsis or something before you jump into it.
The combat is shit, the skill progression is terrible and extremely limiting, every difficulty outside the last two are for babies who think Dark Souls is like defeating Satan, and Ciri and The Wild Hunt is really fucking boring when you finally meet them.
That and the third country has none of the splendor of the cities or the first area.

It's another boring game with shitty combat with 80% of the game having you watch people talk to each other, and a story that is actually not very interesting or well paced. It's the same bullshit there is every year. Last year we had dragon age inquisition, before that we had skyrim and mass effect.

Its not that there is so much great about it, as there is so little wrong with it. No particular feature about the game jumps out, but everything about it is just so solid except for a few minor issues.

There's really no reason for there to be an enhanced edition. Witcher 1 and 2 needed some changes badly and CDPR were nice enough to make it a free upgrade, but Witcher 3 is easily the most polished of the 3 and features 2 large expansions which I don't see anyone in their right mind making free.

It's probably one of the most boring games I've ever played yet I still haven't completely dropped it.
Basically it comes down to this. They put the story over the gameplay and it really suffers because of it. The combat is pretty dull, most of the side quests are derivative. Crafting and alchemy is a good idea but not well executed. And unless you played the last two games you're not going to know or care who anybody is.

First game in awhile you want to listen to everyone's conversation, the dialog, all the cutscenes aren't boring as shit with awful VA and models.
