What's the hardest jrpg you've ever played?
>>
>>330551351
last remnant since endgame was just a revive fest
>>
Phantasy Star II on genesis was brutal
>>
Certainly not Suikoden 5.

Probably Last Remnant.
>>
>>330551442
I found the first one more difficult. But that game caused me nausea.

3 was just a shit stain
>>
JRPGs cannot be difficult by design because there is little to no skill involved in the game play, unless ofc you mean having to grind more to get levels/items as a difficulty.

I had the most trouble with Xenoblade I guess.

Fucking Gadolt I swear to god. Took me like 10 hours over a week to beat him.>>330551395

You're retarded.
Some JRPGs, like Last Remnant, get more difficult if you grind.
>>
Last Remnant, but the difficulty was mainly just figuring out how the systems work.

I love that game and it deserves a sequel more than anything but they have to give more info to the player next time.
>>
>>330551848
difficulty in rpgs are not defined by how you move the controller

same goes with every game ever. some are hard because of muscle memory, like fighting games, and resource management, like rts

FFX
Can't get past the Mi'ihen Highroad without falling asleep.
>>
7th saga or something. The SNES game that people were talking about being retardedly hard.
>>
>>330552509

This is bait right? Or are you literally 12 and Xenoblade is the only JRPG you have played?

>>330551351

Probably Bravely Default on Hard with encounters off.

>>330551848

There is a lot of skill involved once you ban yourself from grinding.

part of me feels like even the developers couldn't understand just how complicated they made it themselves so they just did there best to explain what they could before saying fuck it.
>>
>>330553053

No, I'm 33 and have been playin JRPGs since the SNES days.

I don't find many hard. But I struggled with Xenoblade.

Sue me.

Persona 4. Don't ask me.
>>
>>330552885
i loved the game but i don't remember much strategy towards the end since the enemies would just one shot entire groups and you just had to pray they didn't want to fuck you up each turn

This game.

Picture X-Com as an RPG with:
*all the bullshit
*enemy getting initiative when you open a door
*half assed tutorials explaining the system while the enemies are masters of the system
*if one ally dies, it's game over
>>
>>330553616
sounds kind of cool till i looked it up and saw how garbage all of it's scores were

review scores have been shit for the past few years
>>
None to be honest. Excessive grinding/or lack of it, obscuring systems/mechanics on purpose to the player, starting them weak in an area of much stronger monsters, etc. are all artificial difficulty bullshit and usually the main ways JRPGs tend to be "hard". Even the "gimp yourself by being lower level by not grinding a lot" is artificial as fuck, too in an even lamer way (self-gimping challenges don't offer anything new in most games unless they are designed to have fun with it like low percentage Zero Mission speed runs.)
>>
>>330553792
Most of the shit reviews were literally because of graphics and difficult systems if it makes you feel differntly. Many srpg fans liked it.
>>
ARC
RISE
FANTASIA

it's mostly grinding, and to beat last boss you just need to have a lot of revive and spam the same combo until they fucking died

DARK SOULS™: Prepare To Die™ Edition

This.

>Oh Anon, strategy JRPGs are supposed to be challenging
Level 40 enemies placed on the same maps as level 20's. Enemies that have distance attacks that reach half the map. Regardless of difficulty setting, enemies chain combos at every given chance. You need your entire party to reach the exact same exit in order to leave, yet grouping them massively increases the odds for the enemy to combo.

The game was touted for being the Dark Souls of strategy JRPGs, but the game is programmed with the odds greatly in the AI's favor.
>>
>>330556981
there was a difficulty setting in that game?

I spent like 50 hours on it (most of it online for the Platinum)
>>
>>330551351
>Jecht on FFX
even with guides its just fucking impossible. what the hell where you thinking when you made this game, to make me suffer and grind`?
>>
Maybe Mana Khemia? I remember the bosses being a pain in the ass especially those twins with that orb thing and the chimera.
>>
>>330553281

Then I assume you usually only play simple, turn-based games and grind to make them even easier. Xenoblade is not a hard game, even when you're several levels below all the bosses.
>>
breath of fire V Dragon Quarter

seriously, having to spend coins to save the game and that bullshit percent number that works as a time limit to finish the game ruined my day
>>
One of the Saga games. They're generally just hard as fuck, but most of them do things like punish you for grinding and have mechanics designed purely to fuck you up.

I remember one of them (Romancing Saga was it?). You're told to collect 10 gems throughout the game otherwise the bad guys steal them and that is bad. But you know what? Everytime you collect a gem, the last boss gets stronger. If you collect all 10, the last boss turns into a super fucking boss that has about 1 attack. This attack causes instant game over and the boss is programmed to use it 4 times in a row.
>>
>>330553381
Probably shouldn't play mainline then
