You clearly haven't seen some of the more manic fans of the game.
That said, I think DaS is great. I think all of the games From have made of its ilk are great - all worth playing and DeS/DaS definitely deserve to be mentioned in any discussion of best games in the last decade.
I hope 3 is good and they bow out with the formula gracefully. BB was pretty spectacular so it'd be a shame if DaS3 fails to at least match it and the formula ends on a downturn.
It is a great game but it have it flaws that /v/ tends to ignore, I would give it 8/10

Most of the praise is deserved. The setting is great, the bosses are creative, the story is interesting despite its vagueness, and the combat is tough while still being fair. Sometimes the game's framerate goes down a lot and its later areas aren't as well designed as the early ones, but the good far outweighs the bad.
Perhaps they should try to fix their awful hitboxes, grabbing animations in general, fucked up target lock, collision detection when hitting walls with your weapon and hey if they feel ambitious why not make it so that enemies can not hit through each other.
I can enjoy Dark Souls, it make me feel stuff which is better than most games but by god the "git gud" the game is perfect squad are dumb as hell.
