I had Necrons in both 4th and 5th edition.

I actually didn't mind the new changes. The fluff stated that some Tombs completely wiped their Lord's personality and were just running on basic programming, so you could still have your emotionless, soulless killbots.

Only thing I didn't like was them getting rid of the Nightbringer and the Deceiver. I really liked using them in the old codex.

Also another assumption you're making is that everyone liked Oldcrons. Even if one enjoyed their silent rapemachines of star gods aspect no one could have denied that they weren't fleshed out like other factions. Their lore, although on purpose, was painfully underdeveloped and left unclear for the sake of keeping their mystery afloat. It's not hard to see both positives and negatives of this.

I don't know. I am a massive Egyptaboo and loved Tomb Kings but I honestly preferred Oldcrons more to their new selves.
Provided, in 40k, I go with Eldar.

Fun fact that had no effect on my choice, but a lot of Eldar imaginery takes from Egyptian symbolism, aside form the obvious glam metal and High Elves.
