Why do we pretend emulation works well?
The only thing that works well is up to SNES anything more powerful and you can tell it's an emulator. Frame rate drops, missing textures, bad audio. I know people are going to post custom configs they spent hours to look perfect.
Because we don't have shit computers.
Because they look better and can run at a constant framerate, while also being free.

The fuck are you talking about? Most PS2 games run perfectly fine on my old pc. Custom config? What does that even mean? I just set the resolution and start playing.

Ps1 is nearly flawless. I can't get n64 to work for shit though. I tried ps2, and it went actually great for a few minutes before the game (mgs 2) went super slo-mo. I hear it just takes a decent computer to emulate ps2, but that I do not have.

Well you're emulating the game on the console, so if it has framerate drops on the console it'll have them in the emulator too. Some games can get around this but most games can't.
Though while you can't generally get better performance you can somehow get larger resolutions. I don't really understand that.

For some games you should try and see if they have a PC version. Like MGS2 has a PC version and you can get it working pretty well. It runs a lot better than emulating it.

Only for some games. General rule of thumb is the more popular a title the better emulation support it will have, in fact many games are preferable to play through emulation than the actual console. I have a PS1 and PS2 but I prefer to emulate some games on my PC than break out the consoles because they look and run that much better, even if it's not 1:1 absolute perfection.
I really can't see why anyone would hate on emulation unless they're an increadibly salty console-only fag who can't afford the hardware or learn how to use it.
