I bought this shitty fuckin game after the direct when it went on sale because Generations looks cool as fuck. This game has awful lock on, shitty graphics, my dual swords are slow as fuck, I can't even see how much damage i'm actually doing to monsters. How the fuck can anyone play this shit? I'm carrying around eggs like a fucking retard and something bumping into me just before camp makes me drop the fucking egg!

The basic answer is 'git gud'. Fans of the series can make it to the endgame, you can too. Monster hunter is a niche game I'll tell you upfront.
First off don't use the lock on its garbage, that's a recent addition to the series and you don't need it. Get used to using the center camera button. Dual blades take a lot of skill because they're dependant on combos and that demon power bullshit, try a different weapon. Get used to rolling as its your best defense. The monster is dead when you finally kill it, you don't need a health bar.
Bring traps, potions, make mega potions. Spend time gathering stuff for big hunts and you won't be sitting there for 45 minutes. If you don't enjoy the game that's fair, its not for everybody, but its not unplayable.
So is Hunting Horn literally the only weapon type that it's worth having every family tree branch of? Because with all the other weapons, you would just go for damage/sharpness, right?

Monster Hunter is more of a social game. There is the elite "I solo speedrun every monster" -type players, but I guess that most of the player base is more casual and groups up with their friends to make basically everything trivial.

Greatsword isn't slow, it's a hit-and-run weapon. Pretty fast even. Try out duals and SnS

Evasion +1/2/3 is a skill you can get on your armor that increases the invincibility time you get when you roll, or with Lance, backstep.
The thing with lance is that your backstep is very short and can chain into itself up to 2 more times, so with evasion +3 you can become completely invincible for a long time by chaining back steps.
