This is Wei Yan.
He has a very ambitious plan.
However, his higher ups did not like said plan and thus was not carried out.
He had been loyal but a bit hard to get along with certain other officers in his faction.
Ultimately he was killed because people thought he was going to defect.

Incidentally, much later on, Deng Ai carried out a similar ambitious plan, and proceeded to buttfuck Shu into submission.

Wei Yan was such a cool dude historically and in the folklore but since he went against the wishes of fucking Zhuge Liang he got portrayed as a caveman in the games.

Liu Bei not listening to Wei Yan also led to the chain of events that led to Pang Tong's death. Next time, when one of your strongest generals tells you that the captured enemy general you treated with kid gloves and a slap on the wrist expecting him to return the favor is going to return to the battlefield as an enemy, you listen.

>Previously, Wei Yan invented a defense mechanism to hinder and repel invading forces by setting up "covering camps" on the outskirt and exits of trails leading to Hanzhong. Even after Wei Yan's death, Shu had been following his arrangement, and succeeded in driving out Wei forces every time. However, Jiang Wei argued Wei Yan's design "could only repel the enemy but not reaping big profit." To anticipate a Wei attack, Jiang Wei proposed to abandon the camps set up by Wei Yan and vacate all the passes in the Qinling Mountains so the Wei forces would go deep into the Hanzhong plain, where the worn-out expedition force would be vulnerable to a Shu counterattack upon retreat. Jiang Wei assured the Shu emperor Liu Shan that was how to achieve a decisive victory previously unattained when they had just defended along the Qinling Mountains.[3] This strategy, however, was erred in that Wei had mobilized its forces in a way Jiang Wei had never imagined, as the later course of events would point out.

SON OF A BITCH!

wu chained the boats together, started a fire and zhuge liang used his shu magic to whip up some fierce winds to spread said fires
>>
>>329719149

the fire was started by a wu fire ship, and exacerbated by abnormal winds for the time of year

zhuge liang allegedly prayed for the winds to change direction, but in reality he just read a fucking almanac
>>
>>329719272

wei chained the boats together because they were shit seamen

What exactly did Zhuge Liang saw in Jiang Wei? IIRC most of his plans and strategies post-Kongming are pretty much failures.

The only thing he's good at is annoying /eagg/ and KoeiTecmo Japan's twitter.
>>
>>329719563
It was. That someone was Pang Tong who seemed to have defected to Wei, but like Huang Gai, was only a trick.
Chaining the boats did solve the sea sickness, however it also cleared the way for the fire attack.
>>
>>329719938
He got the drop on him that one time.

As did Hao Zhao, and Zhang He, and Cao Zhen

>Chaining the boats did solve the sea sickness, however it also cleared the way for the fire attack.
Heh.

>Wei: The hell Pang Tong? You said this would help!
>Pang Tong: It did help. But it also help my army too.

I do wonder if the novel's author wasn't such a Shu fag, how differently the characters would be portrayed? Would Zhou Yu still have been portrayed as a vindictive jealous bitchboy rather than his historical self who was said to have been one of the nicest guys you could talk to in Wu?
Methinks not.
