if a game needs a load of patches, rereleases and DLC to become good (read mediocre) then it's not a good game.
thus DaS2 is shit.
imo, both got serious flaws. DaS1's pvp is really poor compared because of twinks, hackers, even worse connections, the hole "can only be connected to 10 people at once" and those fucking backstabs. DaS2 seriously suffers because of the limited red eye's and the fact that you level the invasion covenant via duels.
while i enjoy the individual fights in DaS2 (maybe even more than DaS1) so does DaS1s environments places and atmosphere more than make up for it (also IMO the bosses are better).

Demon's Souls established most of what made Dark Souls great. Dark Souls only gets more praise because more people were able to play it. They are pretty equal overall.
I prefer the Metroid-esque structure of the first Dark Souls.

If you head toward the rotten there would no way of going back naturally, it was a linear path way, Demons souls on the other hand had shortcuts that would lead you to the starting area which made the levels feel more natural. Demon's souls had shortcuts while Dark souls 2 had check points.

I think Demon's Souls strikes an atmosphere that Dark Souls just couldn't repeat. And despite some significant gameplay improvements in Dark Souls, its that singular feature that makes me rate DeS higher than DS.
