Father Nier is pretty much the paternal figure of the group, it's only normal for someone as broken as Kaine and Emil to look up to him and eventually develop feelings

They're both Nier but have different personalities. Also both are canon. Replicants are born(?) over and over again but usually stick near loved ones I guess. One generation of Nier/Yonah were brother/sister while another was father/daughter.

Papa Nier brings an adult figure that is needed for his rag-tag band of misfits. Its also a lot more believable that someone would sacrifice the world for their daughter as opposed to for their sister.
The only thing that looks dumb is the 2h sword animation for Papa Nier considering how jacked he becomes.

All the side materials revolve around the Brother while Papa just gets a small reference in the timeline, so all the things we know about Papa Nier is just the stuff happens in the game. I don't know if they mention or imply Brother's side material acts(liking Popola, Kainé liking the Brother, Emil being hungry for the Brother's dick) in the Replicant version of the game.

You might be right. I think those examples were sort of implied in the Western version of the game, Emil's thing being very subtle. I think it's easier for us to take Brother Nier as canon, anyway, especially after reading Grimoire Nier.
Always preferred Dad over the brother, but both have their merits.
