this nigga broke through multiple parallel universes and bent time itself just to beat a mario level with as little jumps as possible. he didnt even do it with no jumps, he still had to jump 0.5 times

Guy did a speedrun of a Mario 64 level without using jump. Goes on a tangent on how he built up speed for 12 hours using a glitch in order to catapult Mario through several parallel universes and back to his native universe in order to circumvent an obstacle he would otherwise have to use jump on.
>>
>>324263432
it was actually 25 hours, because he was not able to travel first lane of those parallel universes because he lost too much speed to make it to the exact right spot on the third UP so he had to turn it up to be able to travel thro the whole QuadUP

Like I said, it's just a counting term.

If its a self contained stage challenge for watch out for falling rocks, the amount of A pushes rounds up to 1, as you need to be holding it for the kicks.

In a full game run, you can start the stage holding A, so you didn't actually push it during stage, so you can round the half A push down to 0.

I haven't watched his videos enough to know for sure, but I think he uses a TAS which is software that lets you sequence inputs so he can just run a script and the whole thing plays out by itself. This is more plausable seeing as some of the things he does in his videos seem incredibly difficult to perform with human hands and a n64 controller - e.g. the scuttlebug boost into groundpound on the rolling rocks 0 a presses star. I could be wrong though, and if I am, this guy is a god.

think of megaman charged shot, you press the button > if you release it right away it shoots a single pea. > if you keep it pressed, it starts chargin your shot > if you released it after chargin it, it will shoot a bigger blast.
so there are instances that unless you release the button it doesnt count as a "full press cycle" thats why he states half press.

Mario 64 just happened to be one of the first 3D games with rudimentary physics, on hardware that would later be easily emulated and thus easily hacked and manipulated by other external programs. It really has nothing to do with the game being "super advanced" or anything, it's actually more the opposite; it's just more easily broken because the engine doesn't have as meticulous safeguards to prevent the abuse and bending of its physics code.

That's why it's called a half press. Any press is counted as soon as the button goes down in a full run, but some stars can be completed while the button is still held down from a previous press.

This doesn't add to the total button press count of a full run, but the star itself is impossible if the button isn't held, so the individual star is said to be possible with half a press, meaning half the process of pressing the button (pushing it down) is done before the stage even starts.

The variables for position overflow, so while Mario physically moves past a certain point, the code for whether he's on actual ground or not loops around to the original map. By managing his speed, Mario can have this looping variable show he's on ground while physically being several map lengths over in the middle of nothingness.

This allows Mario to change his relative position in the level without actually interacting with anything, so long as he is fast enough to loop around the map in those couple of frames before his position variables are updated.

He does need to actually return to the map itself to finish the level, since he needs to touch the star to collect it, not just appear to be in the same relative position as it on the map.
>>
>>324281174
>>324281390
First we need two people: The Mario and the player.
We're going to have to find the Mario, but I think we already found the player.
>>
>>324278946
The game actually monitors two things: "Is A depressed?" and "Is A changing from not depressed to depressed?"

Mario only jumps when the game detects the button changing from unpressed to pressed. If you keep the button held down you can get some of the effects of pressing A without jumping constantly.
>>
>>324263937
It's kinda like in Super Mario Sunshine, when the game starts glitching out and then you shoot out cause you stepped on a certain platform in a funny way

our world's code is much more delicate and not as primitive as Sm64's code.
Whatever "runs" our world basically takes status of every atom's parts (and I heard there are smaller parts to stuff like protons and neutrons?)
Then it's all run at real-time.
It's insane but when you consider that our simulated world is simple compared to the world simulating us, then there's really no end to what the world outside of our world can process.

For the last fucking time /v/, that's not how progress works.
The efficiency of development comes through simplicity not sheer stubbornness.

You want a few people who are lazy but clever so they'll use their wit as foresight to circumvent hard or long work ahead, not a group of people who are obsessive to the point of not knowing when or how to quit who will take the long and hard way and only realize the shortcuts in hindsight. As much of a cliche as it's become brilliant but lazy is in fact the mark of actual genius since it fuses brevity with intelligence to make a process as efficient as possible instead of just effective but cumbersome or worse ineffective and pointless but interesting in theory (most FTL concepts).

It does seem silly because there can be no true half presses, but when he talks about doing a segment or a certain sequence of inputs it seems like a necessary thing to distinguish. So obviously every half press requires a previous half press to start it off, equaling a whole regular press altogether, but if you were to be autistically running some arbitrary category for your niche speed/challenge running community I can see how the term would be useful.
