People can say everything about the gameplay but the combo system is the most scary thing i have ever seen in a videogame.
To restore life you need to do a 17 hits combo on an enemy, alive or dead: then an orb will appear and touching it restores your life.
if you keep the combo going you can get better orbs too.
Now, imagine you're on death's door and you have to fight some enemies with those godawful controls to gain a little sliver of health more after having done a 45 minute mission.
That will happen multiple times, it's scary as fuck.
I recommend playing the game with a friend so you can share the pain, i wouldn't have been able to finish it without one.
Also keep a list of all the weapons, how to find them and the ones you have.
You'll thank me later when you prepare that list.

There's heavy differences between the English Dad NieR script, the Japanese Dad NieR script, and the Bro NieR script.
One of them is that bro NieR has a ton more subtext with Kaine hinting at her crushing on him very hard, stuff like her getting slightly flustered around him after the timeskip instead of saying he looks like shit is just one example. Her love for him just sorta comes outta nowhere in the Dad version, comparatively.
Beyond that Emil has more obvious feelings for him too, and the line about marrying a woman isn't in the jap version at all which makes it even clearer.
His relationship to Popola and Devola is also altered for the better IMO. Instead of knowing them from the time he was a young man and for some reason just never questioning why two of his best friends never age, Bro NieR only knows them for a few years and mostly views them as kinda distant big sisters of sorts like the rest of the village.

It was a normal thing in that universe where Dragons had to/wanted to be hidden/live alongside humans. Nowhere was it shown that was the case for the Drakengard one. Or even that they had the ability to. Dragons were their own separate intelligent species that I'm sure didn't view humans as something they needed to look like, or care at all about human affairs enough to want to blend in. I think it is also amusing to note that unlike the other party members, and even though murder is his thing, he really isn't a "bad guy". He kills combatants and soldiers. As a prince he could have easily have gotten away with killing indiscriminately and been a Gregor Clegane kind of character but that wasn't part of any of his background.
