Honestly, individually enforcing your preferences on others isn't going to have any bearing on whether or not its going to be adopted as the default parlance. You either accept and adapt, or remain mute and cranky. These are yr choices~ n_n
Prescriptivism has its place - and certainly can help to limit ambiguity in the right contexts - but policing an informal discussion with some presumed notion of correct usage is just sillie. In my experience, most people do it because they either assume that using a standard dialect is interchangeable with displaying intelligence - which it isn't - or because the person doing the 'correcting' has been badgered by some other prescriptivist with and axe to grind in the past.
Either way, demanding it says a lot more about the person insisting upon it than it does the original speaker/poster being corrected.
