>1000 Jumps = King of Jump Rope (Key Item)

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Hippaul

>Level 80 Athlete Queen

WHY IS THIS ALLOWED?
>>
>>323289081
Yeah, they could have given something else that actually has a function in the game.

I don't know how many jumps I managed to do (I got pretty far), but oh, man, I spent a shitton of hours there like the autistic kid I was.
>>
>>323289081
Proof of literal autism.

I got both.
>>
>>323289081
FF9 has a lot crap like this. It was one of the turn offs for the game, along with having to navigate the towns in the "right" order, half the cast being thinly fleshed out, and constant steal failures on boss fights.

>1000 Jumps = King of Jump Rope (Key Item)
The jumping itself is not that hard but keeping the pace is pure torture.
>Level 80 Athlete Queen
Just takes long.
>>
What's wrong with optional things being hard?
>>
Anyone actually have a picture of the athlete queen card? Can't find it on Google
>>
>>323289081
>PC players already start crying
>>
>>323292958

It's not that it's hard. It's that its a repetitive activity that literally has no reward for completing it. That's fucking stupid
>>
>>323289081
>King of Jump Rope
But this item doesn't do anything, though. The wiki says "A rare item received in Alexandria. A medal of honor given to the champion jump-roper.". What's the problem with stupid side quests giving pointless achievements?
>>
>>323295320

But that's the issue. Compared to VIII where a lot of the silly side stuff gave you tangible rewards which made them feel worthwhile, going to IX and then realizing none of the stuff you do is worth anything is kind of dumb. Exactly why everyone loves Triple Triad but hates Tetra Master (That and the more obnoxious rng elements)
>>
>>323291692

>Entirely optional content.
>turn off

I suggest you turn off yourself, if you know what I mean.
>>
>>323295853

Going from a game where the optional content is rewarding, to its sequel where the optional content isn't is generally a turn off, yes

SOMEONE NEVER GOT ALL 12 ZODIAC COINS I SEE
But you're right, beyond two points to get two more key items necessary to finish up two other side story stuff, Tetra Master never comes up again and it doesn't have the spiffy "Turn cards into items" like Triple Triad did.

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Excalibur_II

>It is possible to reset the game clock to allow a player to gain the Excalibur II again if missed the first time by allowing the game's internal clock (not the displayed time) to overflow and start again from the beginning. However, this means 232 / 60 seconds (over two years) of gameplay, assuming that the game is continually on for that time.

U WOT MATE?
>>
>>323295853

My only issue was that there were a lot of the minigames of FFIX were only available for certain points in story progression; sometimes just hitting one or two flags after it would make it gone forever which means that if you want to do said challenge you have to be willing to drop everything and do it all right then and there.
>>
>>323296168
>Best weapon in the game is useless by that stage anyway
The entire game though was to bring back the old, 'mystery' feel of it all were you would miss out on so much without word of mouth or a guide ( though it's guide was summed up as "You payed $15 bucks to visit our website endlessly!" ). The entire point IS the fact that you can miss so much, because it means you can replay it to experience and find out about it next time. Excalibur II is like the extreme "Mew under the truck" ordeal were no one was going to believe you if you told them, because it was a kinda insane request to ask someone to do.

>>
>>323295671
Well, I can see what you mean. Personally I'm not a huge fan of Final Fantasy to begin with, and I've only really played 6 and 7 - both of which I did minimal side quests in, and just focused on the main story. But it always felt like most of the side stuff in these games were more of a "I did it to do it" than a "I did it because of X reward" situation.

It's one of the things I like about Zelda, how everything matters for the main progression.
>>
>>323295097
>no reward
Just because you don't want the rewards does not mean there are no rewards. Stop crying.
>>
>>323296648
The PAL frame ratio actually made getting Excalibur II impossible in the original release unless you opened the disk tray to skip every FMV.

It was pretty obvious that boss battles were designed with the idea of you spending 20-30 battles just stealing and surviving.
They managed to make a worse version of pic related
>>
>>323295097
They're like the precursors to modern video game achievements, except the requirements are even more asinine.

Seriously? I remember that being in FAQs as a recommended trick but I had no idea it was a requirement for you guys.
I refused to ever attempt that thing- even as a kid I recognized how fast it would destroy my enjoyment of the game to rush everything and stress over time.

>>
>>323296895
The boss battles were designed to be clearable at level 1 if you aren't completely retarded.

The thief mechanic was built in optional content. If you wanted to get an early boost you could optionally go for it.

Its noone's fault but your own if you can't actually fight the compulsion to get everything. This is not the draw mechanic where you will need to draw grind something eventually. Stealing in FFIX is 100% completely optional.

You 100% never ever have to steal in FFIX.

You will need to draw at some point in FFVIII.

Bullshit. I got to the Fujin/Raijin fight in the lunatic pandora with next to no drawing and the most basic of stat junctions.

Which makes it clear someone who actually knows what they;re doing could do much much better without touching the draw command at all.

It is not compulsory. It is not comparable to draw.

The statement "FFIX was designed around grinding steals from bosses" is wrong. FFIX was designed to be piss easy, like all FFs, because FFs are a vehicle for Muh Story first and foremost.

That you can steal as an option is not having boss fights be designed around it. They were designed to accommodate it. Pretty big difference.

SMT:Nocturne's bosses are designed around gathering and fusing monsters to get the right party composition. FFIX is designed around a low level of difficulty, not stealing.
>>
>>323291692
If you're going to have fixed classes, at least make the classes fun to use and effective, right?

It's Jap writing, so I never expected them to focus on anything other than muh friendship hero, but Freya was one of the most interesting characters in the FF universe. What a waste.

>>
>>323289081
Don't forget that these are only available for a short window of time if you're just progressing the story. If you want to get these, you need to do it once they become available; you can't just save them for the end-game when you're going around doing sidequests anyway.

been over a decade, but is this the final fantasy where you basically run around mashing X to find items? It was this or ff8 and it was the dumbest fucking thing
