Why do are Empires in games and other media always portrayed as bad guys while Republics are portrayed as good even though they can be flawed as well?
>>
>>323285605
cuz Star Wars
>>
>>323286947
But in Starwars the Republic was horrible, both before and after the Empire.
>>
>>323285605

Starwars, and it could be because Rome was kind of like the galactic empire in some ways. And since Rome, the most famous empire, persecuted the early Christians and crucified Jesus, there may be some bias against empires in general on a subtle, religious level, in the west and in places influenced by it.

>Why do are Empires in games and other media always portrayed as bad guys
They don´t are be that way.
And yeah, this guy basically nailed it
>>323286947
.
>>
>>323285605
because people have been tricked in thinking several different people each with their very own interests and agenda fighting over what to do can do a better work than a single guy pulling strings
>>
>>323287157
According to whom?
"democracy is truly the worst form of government, except for all the others."
It was aweful and didn´t work yet it was better than blowing up planets to make a point.
>>
Because the Empire blew up a whole frickin planet full of innocent people for autistic reasons.
>>
Because Republics are seen as democratic while Empires are seen as dictatorships/oppressive
>>
>>323288424
According to the movies where they didn't give a shit about Naboo?
>>
>>323288729
>planets harbouring terrorists
>innocent
lol

Naboo was under a tyrannical Monarchy
>>
>>323289494
I'd side with the rebels if they had uniform as cool as the stormtrooper armor.

>>323289494

South America is so fucking leftist. Damn.

The Communists did a thorough job.

Play Fallout 2 and NV

Also I agree there are many flaws with democracies and republics beyond just muh mob rule bullshit every pleb brings up. Like the reactionary want for glory and expansion over reasonable stances of defense and caution.
>>
because

empire = monarchy = bad
republic = democracy = good
>>
>>323289559
It was a monarchy in name only though
>you had to be elected
>you have terms to serves and have to step down

Good Empire > Good Republic > Bad Republic > Bad Empire

It's a lot easier for an Empire to go bad, though. All it takes is one bad apple on the throne and all that.

>all those retarded answers

Because a single almighty ruler is more likely to make retardedly evil decisions than a government that consists of separated powers pushing each other towards mediocrity.

Empires roll a dice each generation hoping that your new Emperor is not a retarded nutjob.

Why the fuck does it need an explanation?
>>
>>323289494
>all the gibsmedats are rebels
How very unsurprising.

republics are rule of people "res publica"
empires are rule of emperors

current political climate dictates republicas are fundamentally good and empires are fumdamentally evil because muh oppression.

Bonus points for paragons of goodness Resistance movements.

>>all those retarded answers

Then you immediately jump into the easiest goes without saying answer that no one needs to state. If you're going to be this much of a pleb at least don't do it so loudly and arrogantly.
>>
>>323294720
Because the answer is THAT fucking simple, there's no deeper meaning for it. Plus it's less retarded than "STAR WARS"
>>
>>323294223
>Good Empire > Good Republic
Nah,

Empires can only shine in a complete shitholes that needs a steady hand.

Giving legislative power to government is already flawed because politicians often don't know shit about things they are fucking with. Giving all that to a single person is ALWAYS worse.

Because of America rising up against the oh so oppressive British Empire.

Something tells me you'll like 40k

They're basically the empire on steroids except they're competent and their leader is pretty much a god

>game has a massive empire with early 20th century Germany vibes
>they're expansionist dickheads
>game has a massive republic that's clearly based on the USA
>they're also expansionist dickheads, just less blatant about it
>>
>>323294984
Problem with 40k is that the Imperium is the least worst, the alternatives are getting fucked by xenos or chaos.
>>
There are RL examples of dictatorships where everyone is happy.

You're not far off, really.

It's that but also the Germans/Brits against the French Empire, as well as the Third Reich later. We'll ignore that in both those cases the Brits were an empire as well because that's straying a bit from the point.

There was also the original tiny country vs empire scenario with the Greeks against the Persians.

The Greater Good is clearly the Greatest Good.

>Terran Republic
>>
>>323295284
Because dictatorships breed indifferent retards and push away people with common sense.
Any dictatorship that lasted for more than a dozen of year ends up having those plebs as a majority.

Interesting fact is that Obsidian worked on both Kotor 2 and New Vegas, two games where democracy is opposed to empire, and where strong and weak points of both systems are presented equally
>>
>>323285605
Expanding a country through force is generally looked down on by most modern cultures.
Also, empires and republics aren't mutually exclusive.
>>

heh
>>
>>323295307
The difference is that the Napoleonic Wars were empires against empires, Nazi Germany wasn't an empire. The Revolutionary war fits almost perfectly into most rebellion vs empire scenario.

Keep in mind the player base in the whole continent of africa is smaller than the one of spain or poland
>>
It's because of the USA and their obsession with the Roman Republic
>>
>>323298203
Every republic ever was obsessed with the Roman Republic
>>
Until the Oblivion crisis, the Empire in the Elder Scrolls games weren't depicted in too bad a light. Had problems for sure but the Empire wasn't evil.
