You have sysnand and emunand. Your sysnand is what is on 9.2 and has security holes allowing you to run exploits. Emunand which is booted from something like rxTools patches out security signatures so that you can run any CIA file. You update emunand only.

There isn't too much to risk updating emunand. Even if you fuck up emunand you can just reformat emunand and start over. What you don't want to do is update sysnand.
When you update your system ONLY do so by pressing settings on the home screen. Make sure the version number says something related to emunand (for rxTools, that's RX-X or something). Otherwise you are updating sysnand and fucking yourself from running exploits.

It's pretty ez m8. Just use the Health and Safety app to install CIA files - as easy as pressing A on them and waiting. You probably would've injected the FBI program into Health and Safety during whatever tutorial you were following.
Some DLC or Updates won't work through that (although I haven't had any issue yet) so you might have to use BigBlue/DevMenu. Haven't had to use it myself yet but it's not too hard to use.

When you use the qr code/enter the website, use ONLY the stylus to zoom in and scroll over to the top left of the page. After that just tap anywhere on the right side of the bar and it should work. At least it did for me every single time.

Forget what those faggots said, what I do to tap it correctly everytime (it crashing is another story but I do get the flashing colors) is to start tapping near the clickable area to the right and slowly make your way to the slider bar, so with each tap you can see where you tap and when you click it you'll tap it in the middle of the farther right part of the slider

I mean, if you already use rxTools I can't see a single way you'd fuck anything up. You upgrade to a nightly build/3.0 find one that works for you, setup menuhax for sysnand, install ctrbootmanager/whatever bootmanager you want, done. Remove themes if unlinked nands and voila. There're a lot of guides it's really easy though. And I seriously don't see any way you'd fuck up your saves honestly. though just backup your SD card on your pc in case.
