I got burnt out back around DPPt, went through the motions with SS and White, and just gave up entirely after I finished the main story on the latter.
Though eventually I picked up X on a whim and it kinda rekindled my interest. But with the way the games work you don't really get much variety in the teams you can use during the campaign either. You're stuck with the same small selection of monsters available until end game and even in the games where trading is unlocked at the start most of the monsters you could trade in to try and add variety don't evolve (of have annoying evolution requirements) or learn most of their moves until lv40+ so they're boring all through the campaign anyway.
