Me and a friend love the second game, since the morality choices are absolutely ridiculous and hilarious.

Like that one scene with the kid and the sniper rifle. You order him to get it, and then, in the middle of a massive firefight, the kid just stands up and starts cheering like a tusken raider. Then he gets shot and dies.

We laughed for a full minute, it was jut so ridiculous.

My top best FPS games are probably Painkiller and Serious Sam.
The guns feel SO FUCKING GOOD. In the last SS the rifle and pistol they start you with are kinda meh, but things get brutal soon enough.

The odd suggestion is the new Shadow Warrior. Guns arent too great, but for some retard reason this FPS has very satisfying sword fighting, with a simple, but meaty feeling combo system. I really enjoyed that one.

Why would you only respond to one sentence when there is two and the second elaborates on it as if I never said it? Yes, in that one sentence what I said doesn't work. If you are good at the game you will die less like in any game but objectively speaking you dont have a lot of health proportionate to the amount of damage enemies do to you and the game is designed around that health and damage system

its not a fault of the human brain, its just a situation in which the "correct" solution is the shitty one, since there is no way to enforce an agreement to collude and the benefit of selling out is too great

you can solve that problem if both criminals are a part of the same mafia, then the equilibrium choice is for both to stay silent
>>
>>323144225

>>323146856
>human nature
its in the brain
>people arent trusting
thats the brain too

>>323146905
its a problem that has a correct solution, which everyone can see outside of the situation
but when in that situation, everyone picks the wrong choice

the way to solve it is to make the choice before the situation arises, like you said to already know for a fact how you will act, and not have to decide it on the spot

the same reason people dont rush the gunman committing a shooting, even though they outnumber him greatly, and some are behind him. however a trained professional who already knows he'd rush, like a policeman or a soldier, has already made the decision beforehand and can act on it
>>
>>323140189
Try Bulletstorm, it's surprisingly addictive once you know how to kill, with styles.
>>323144202
Yes, it has the same problem with Dark Sector (Warframe prototype) but the game is fun, you can upgrade your main weapons and pick your nanochip, also Trust level.
You can shoot the legs to make them slower, shoot their hands to disarm them or shoot their head to make them shoot their own comrades. Cheesy one-liners and multiple endings. Graphic is pretty good even with weak PC.

I think you're misunderstanding the problem. The real point of this is too illustrate the behavior of oligopolies, because people/companies have their individual welfare at heart rather than the welfare of the industry. Replace the jail time with monetary values representing profit (lower jail-time equals higher profit) and you'll see what I mean, here's a classic example using airline ticket fairs.

Because it's not supposed to have a real correct solution, it's just a thought experiment for people to jerk each other over.

Killzone 2 felt really great, not all games have to be fast twitch shooters.
Then they decided to fuck up the only good thing of 2 in the sequels.

The real value of this scenario is to explain the behavior of large companies in the economy and why cartels are difficult to maintain.

Here's a good scene from a Beautiful Mind that illustrates this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CemLiSI5ox8

>>
>>323146036
Honestly, Max Payne 3 got gunplay right from the get-go. Because enemies wear more and more armor, you start targeting their limbs or head, and any weapon is viable. From the no-spread pistols, to the power weapons like the Magnum and M14, to Uzis, AKs and shotguns, diving through a window and just blowing away two enemies before hitting the ground and turning over as you headshot a third that peeks around the corner. Every weapon is viable, it's all about what you bring to a gunfight and how you handle them rather than the usual pop-and-go most shooters do nowadays. And since basically anyone can kill you real fast if you're a goddamn moron you're encouraged to always be on the move and shooting people as soon as possible.

My dick does the thinking half the time though.

Because calculating the damage would require a lot of processing power, that's why the games that actually had gore like that was precalculated, or simple.

>>
>>323145787
Well he's right - Max Payne 3 IS a cover shooter. There's no possible way you could debate that.
>>
>>323145132
You either needed to play shotgun recon or put slugs on pump action shotguns for them to be usable. Not that shotgun recon wasn't the most fun and useful way to play recon in the game.
>>
>>323151135
>being able to take cover makes it a cover shooter
By that logic smash is a fighting game.
>>
>>323150380
Well red dead had that to an extent. They nailed the old guns shooting- there was gore, and almost every revolver/rifle was one hit kill to the upper chest, but the accuracy and range was different. The entry point versus exit point of the bullets looked amazing there and in max payne 3. Can't remember gta V, but since the engine is the same, it's possible. As far as overboard gore goes I remember soldier of fortune series.
>>
>>323151135
seriously?
>>
>>323151135
It's a cover shooter where enemies become hyperaggressive and will fuck you up if you use cover
a big point in Max Payne 3 is that all the enemies utilize tactics assuming their enemy is sensible and stay in cover, but Max is a dumb american who's too depressed to care about getting shot and so he does exactly what they don't expect (which is running straight into their fire)
>>
>>323148298
How could anyone actually like the controls in Killzone 2? There was so much fucking input lag.

Good night sweet prince, this game was too good for this world.
>>
>>323151330
Yes, the fact that you can take cover makes it a cover shooter. How the fuck is that hard to grasp? Just because you choose to play it without using cover,(which is impossible, by the way - because the game automatically puts you into cover at many points in the game), doesn't magically change the game's genre.
Doom is an fps regardless of weather or not you choose to fire your weapon at enemies.

>>323151617

Good game.
Liked how even if they were wearing helmets you could get a headset by hitting exposed areas around the mouth.

Too bad the game lacked content.
After the short campaign all there is to do is replay the same kennels with challenges.
They should have had different levels made for the Arcade mode and maybe even a survival mode (I like them, sue me).

You do realise that there is a survival mode in MP3, right?
>>
>>323152782

I like survival modes too but I don't think it would work with a game like max payne, where alot of the fun comes from you running into rooms and clearing them as opposed to waiting for enemies to come to you
>>
>>323153642
The survival mode in Max Payne 3 is okay, especially with a friend, but it doesn't feel the same.

The enemies don't react as fluidly when shot and after a while everyone is wearing armor and helmets. We also started hitting serious lag and delay.

Yes you can take cover, but more often than not it's so you can take a breather from running and gunning and shoot dodging (which you can actually use to travel from cover to cover

It also added a nice amount of weight and nuance to the gun fights that made max feel like he really was older, heavier but still somewhat spry

The "Rockstar formula" is horrible for third person shooters imo. The only two games I really liked from them were Red Dead and LA Noire, mostly for the story. The whole left-rigger right-trigger thing is boring as fuck and there is very little diversity in enemies.
