not really

virtual boy was horrible even back then

Modern VR is way better but jews are pricing it for 800€

i mean...it's just a cellphone screen
>>
>it's totally different this time, I swear!
>>
The reason why nintendo didnt jump into the VR train.

Probably for the best.
>>
>>323024138
What?
Are you too poor to affort 800€?
What working person can't affort 1000€?
1500€ is a steal for such top notch hardware revolution.

>Gunpei Yokoi knew the device wasn't ready to the public, yet Nintendo pressured for a release anyway
>shitty red and black screen
>caused headaches
>was a system itself and not an accessory for already existing platforms
>back then when 3D games were not even a thing
>later in the PSx/N64 days, the early 3D games ran at 20~ FPS which would guarantee headaches

i think you severely underestimate how old vr is.

This is age old bait
>>
>>323026802
Movies use different techniques than games to, and you don't watch them on VR. 60 FPS is absolute minimum for VR. The Rift is 75FPS/90FPS for a very good reason

>>323026950
The 3D of games in the Genesis wasn't real 3D. They used sprites and techniques, they weren't rendering polygons and shit, you know. So VR wouldn't be the same at all, compared to moving in a fully 3D room, or for racing or a flight cockpit.

The Virtual Boy was a badly executed concept, that was not only rushed, but way too soon because the technology couldn't utilize its strength properly, which is first person 3D rendered environments.

>>323027149
>and you don't watch them on VR
3D movies?
>>
>>323028003
Cardboard effect

Not the same thing as playing a 3D rendered environment at all.

Also the VB didn't have head tracking, which helps the immersion. Imagine if you're playing a flight simulator, and you're looking around the cockpit for enemy planes. It really is a big thing for games that have good immersion and atmosphere.

Imagine VR with STALKER, that shit would be tense as fuck.
>>
>>323028156
>Not the same thing as playing a 3D rendered environment at all.
Actually it kinda is. A 3D rendered environment is still displayed on a 2D screen.
>Imagine VR with STALKER, that shit would be tense as fuck.
Against all odds it will work quite shit for FPS games, because having to move your head 360 degrees will be impractical.
>>
>>323028594
It isn't. Are you stupid? Looking at a flat screen with cardboard 3D isn't the same as navigating a fully 3D rendered environment where everything you see is the game.

>because having to move your head 360 degrees will be impractical
There will be ways around this. You don't think having to turn 180 turning the player away from the controller/mouse+kb was thought out?
>>
>>323029407
>You don't think having to turn 180 turning the player away from the controller/mouse+kb was thought out?
I don't. Kinda how like the Wiimote was "thought out". Or the Kinect was "thought out".
>>
>>323028594

Do FPS games like TrackIR, easy. Mouse still aims the gun but head unit moves the head independently.

Not that hard.
>>
>>323030098
watch this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RehCTRrWM0
and see possible applications of those controls
>players can run and throw grenades behind them
>allowing lean and blind firing the way you want
>the guy manually aims with ironsights as if he was firing a gun in real life

This isn't wagglan friend

I'm not that dumb angry guy you're responding to, but that was awesome.

How would he spin 360°? Turning the body around looks lame as fuck, like looking at a console player.
>>
>>323026950
I ACTUALLY HAD THAT THING!!!

First time we plugged it in it billowed out tons of red smoke. I never even got to try it.
