I've only played a single game of Dota to be honest, and I got disconnected immediately and spent ten minutes trying to reconnect while listening to my friend (who invited me to play) convinced the other players not to rage at me. He was pretty good at the game so the lobby MMR was probably way too high for a new player. He kicked ass and was the best player in the lobby, but I fed as Dark Seer about 12 times because I was laning against a Brood Mother (I had no clue what any of this meant at the time, I watch Dota a fair bit though so I'm thinking about taking another shot at playing the game). The single defining mechanic of Counterstrike is corners. Someone holds still around a corner and shoots when someone tries to peek the corner. You repeat this forever for as long as you play the game. This is not an interesting mechanic.
Without being able to increase your accuracy or move quickly to avoid being shot by a laserbeam the game literally devolves into 1. Peek Corner 2. Get shot or get lucky and shoot the other guy

Competitive Pokemon is non-existent among friends because it doesn't take long for the alpha autist to show their dominance. Someone IS going to be better than the rest of the group, and nobody will want to play with them, and the urge to continue playing Pokemon with maximum autism breeding and team building will just die outright. Not even on purpose; people will just not want to do it anymore.
My friends and I insist on spur of the moment custom rules to prevent the whole perfect ivs/nature/move sets because goddamn it's exhausting. I understand it, and I like online battles with strangers/other 4chan users with my suped up purpose built team, but shit like "Only Pokemon from Routes X, Y, and Z" or "Draw an type out of the hat, that's your mandatory type" makes battling with friends way more entertaining.
