Uh, Joan of Arc is a decent campaign to pick up after the tutorial. Saladin and Barbarrosa are the best of Age of Kings. The battles of the conquerors are mostly good too. No clue about the recent shit. I have it too but it gets too laggy in my toaster.

I only played it on lan parties with friends back in the day and am now shocked to see that the AI is constantly spamming low end units to attack me. Leaving me with no time to actually build a base. how does one deal with that? Are there mods that remove the zerg rushing?

Yeah, even the basic shit like that, how to build farms or when to rebuild lumber camps for max efficiency can shave minutes off age times for a new player. Build orders are more effective for a new player, but you're not learning what your doing, you're just imitating. Which causes players to build bad habits, be super predictable and hurt your game in the long run.

Pretty high. Its not a strong, be all end all choice. For example you could put crazy stress on Cavarly with your answers and it could give you a civ that doesn't even get Paladin. I definitely suggest trying out the civ it told you, because you really have nothing to lose. It's also kinda daunting because the game has so many civs to choose from now so it's a bit of a burden to try them all. It just makes a shortlist.

Yeah, go moderate difficulty or baby mode. Build walls and funnel the enemy units towards a castel, towers. Last time I checked the Ai will not attack you in any way if you wall up completely before he sends his first units and will let you to boom and make the first move. Make mangonels guarded by spears, best combo that counters every rush besides an eagle/other infantry rush

Like with most every military conflict, the best way to defend yourself is by attacking the enemy. The easiest way to beat even hard AI is by going for a feudal aggression strategy. Putting towers next to their vital resources absolutely destroys them because they're shit at adapting and won't stop you from building them half the time, scout rushes can absolutely harrass the fuck out of their eco because they'll often run away with all their villagers, or run after you with all of them, giving you massive resource leads. Archers also work, though they like to spam skirmishers so you'll still neeed scouts as support
I pretty much never get to make a knight rush workj against them, but maybe that's just because I'm 2slow
