I am but I really, really hope they add 2-player co-op to the game. My favourite gaming experience of the last gen of consoles was playing through RE5 and RE6 splitscreen with a good friend of mine. Me too bro. The tweaks to the combat took some getting used to but it was a blast to play once you got the hang of it. Plus having 4 different flavoured campaigns to play through co-op was absolutely amazing. Great value and one of my favorite games of the last generation. Didn't quite hit the heights of RE5 and RE4 for me though but it was still an absolute blast.

I think you mean tens of thousands at most and I was one of them. It was an old game that was slightly uprezzed which is why I didn't mind replaying it with the classic controls and camera angles. That doesn't mean that a full REmake of RE2 should just be some shitty reskinning of a game that old.
I hope, and think, it will be a proper update of the gameplay to make it handle more like a modern Action Horror Resident Evil game.
Even if I'm wrong I'll still be happy since I love RE2 but I hope they update it and give me something new to play (hopefully co-op).

RE5 and 6 sold better because they aren't Resident Evil games, but Revelations 2 and the REmasters show they are at least trying to do a return to form because the franchise has lost its identity, and as a result doesn't hold as much long term sustainability. They must know they will just go the way of Battlefield or Call of Duty if they continue the way they're going.

Aiming for the niche survival horror market is how you get a game with sales like The Evil Within. Which is fine, I loved that game and enjoyed it, but RE sells more than those sorts of games for a reason.
They already started experimenting with a completely different combat system in RE6 and I expect REmake 2 and RE7 to continue that evolution. It's not a time to go backwards in game design or to stagnate.

Street Fighter had one big come-back because they went for a direct nostalgia release with SF4. It's already back to being a niche game that only sells to tourney-fags. Each disk release since the original SF4 has sold less than the last and I'm sure SF5 will sell even less.
The occasional throwback game is great for a series with a long history. That's what REmake and RE:0 were though. I really doubt REmake2 is going to be another old school style game. I sometimes feel like I'm crazy but 5 is legitimately my favorite game of the series. I must have played that campaign co-op with every friend on my friendlist at some point. It never got old for me and the characters felt like instant classics, even if they were cliche and silly.

For RE1: In cutscenes she's portrayed well, competent, unsexualized/objectified, etc. But she is the "easy mode" (I'm not sure what version, but one explicitly states Jill is Easy and Chris is Normal or Hard in the menu). She has extra inventory space, a starting gun, the bazooka, infinite small keys, free early shotgun, etc. She IS better, but only because she has this handicap. Chris on the other hand is faster and a better shot. Chris is strong and doesn't need these freebies to make the game doable. This sucks because if you only play Jill's campaign she seems like a really good character from a feminist perspective. She kills zeds and doesn't afraid of nothing, saves the male characters, clears a path through the mansion and keeps it professional. In this respect she's pretty damn good.
For RE3: I'm not finished playing this one but she seems to have the qualities of the first one without being condescended and labeled inferior by being the face of easy mode. Her tube top is silly but it's just an outfit and with the rest of her character being solid it's totally fine.
For the newer games: Probably shit.
Worth mentioning is it was cool she was included in Marvel 2 over the other characters.
