I dunno if it counts as mainstream but the (fan translated) PSP version of FF Type 0 is better than the HD one in my opinion. Just make sure you download the more recent version of the ISO, it's kind of hard to find but it has a couple of patches and typo fixes etc in it.

I like No Heroes Allowed. It's like a speedy dungeon keeper where you need to manage the ecology instead of your economy. When you mine blocks to dig your base a monster will spawn depending on each block's neutriant and magic values.
By manipulating your dungeon ecosystem you can create a powerful army or actually set yourself up for extinction by having one lizardman eat 20 omnom flies. But the mysterious power of evolution sometimes works in your favor to instantly level up a type of monster. If all your lizardmen die of hunger they might become fatty lizards with tons of HP to survive long periods without food. If all your insects die from being fed to lizardmen they might evolve into poisonous varieties. Unfortunately if all your insects are killed by adventurers they'll become cowards that burrow underground as soon as enemies come near.
This third game also adds dungeon intelligence that you can use to your advantage. Insects will build mounds that block adventurers, lizards can carve those mounds into totem poles that shoot lightning.
