Paying for online is probably the most retarded thing consoles still pull, but if you insist on it, the choice is obvious. XBL has and continues to trounce PSN in this category. The security breaches alone should scare any reasonable online player away, but it goes further than that. PSN simply can't compete with the latency and efficiency for which XBL operates.

Multiplatform performance accross both consoles varies. Often the PS4 will have a slightly higher resolution, often the X1 will have a more consistent frame rate. However, there is no doubting the marketing deals Sony has with a majority of multiplatform publishers. Call of Duty, Destiny, Assasins Creed, Battlefield, Bat man, you name it. There will always be timed exclusive content first on PS4.

The PS4 is quickly becoming the "also on PC" console. Pretty much almost everything notable it has that X1 does not have is also on PC. The X1 also links up very well with PCs (assuming you have Windows 10). You can actually play your X1 games (and 360 games via backwards compatibility, another major advantage the X1 has) on your PC. The X1 controller also links up rather simply with PCs.
TL;DR there's no "obvious" choice. There's advantages to both.
