He shows up as Morrigan's son. He's described as a mostly normal vibe other than giving off a creepy Norman Bates type vibe.
As for what he was, he was basically a normal human child with the soul of an old god inside him. If you play one route throughout the game, Flemmeth absorbs that old god soul into her but the boy himself ends up being a normal boy afterwards with no harm done to him.

Yeah, no spoilers unless you want them, but:
The Elven Gods were Elven magisters, they had tons of slaves, and in their time, the Veil did not exist, and the Fade and the real world were one. Solas was a magister but freed slaves and was a rebel. He built the Veil and sealed the Elven gods in the Fade. Now he wants to tear the Veil back down and I need to replay the DLC to remember why.
