I mean I don't see how it could be the slightest surprise to literally anyone on /v/ who isn't a genuine retard that MOBAs remain popular and that CSGO continues to have a devoted following. Nor that a lot of AAA megastuff is consistently popular for a while either. Of course /v/ is way more niche then the norm.
So if anything I actually find a lot of pleasant surprises on that list, like Civ 5 being so high. It's far from my favorite Civ or even favorite Sid Meier game period (SMAC still remains top for me) but it's solid enough and not a casual shit affair. EU 4 and AoE II as well. There are a number of perfectly solid titles on that list, and since my default assumption would be pessimism I think it's a lot better then it could be.

No one plays H1Z1 for survival, its base gameplay is terrible for survival but nice for a arcadey PVP game aka Battle Royale.
I have no clue why ARK is that popular though. Dinos have shit melee hit registration, bad animations that turn on a dime and clip through everything. The level system means its super grindy and not fun

I'm going to freely admit that I rather enjoy Fallout 4, I like it a hell of a lot more than Skyrim and while I find many of the choices they made in regards to character customization highly questionable at the same time it doesn't really bother me nearly as much as I thought it would because at fucking least they still have SPECIAL unlike fucking Skyrim.
Would I like a more robust RPG style system? Sure, that would be great, but unfortunately I am finding it hard to mix the idea of non-turnbased FPS combat as a typical RPG.
