The positioning is awful, the d-pad itself is quite nice from a functional standpoint. Clicky and responsive. Having said that, I much prefer the positioning of the left stick, so obviously the d-pad has to go somewhere else. Sony got it the other way round, which to this day I still don't fully understand.

I use DS4 for Fighters and Xbone for everything else that isn't Keyboard and Mouse. The DS4's d-pad is great for it. Also kind of neat that it doubles as a mouse.
I prefer the Ergonomics of the Xbone controller though, but than again it's what i'm used to.

It's all about the D-pad, faggot.
In every single one of those controllers that isn't the Dualshock, it isn't comfortable or reliable to use the D-pad with any precision for anything more than simple weapon selects, or if the developer is particularly lazy, just an unusable remap of the left stick. The biggest issue is navigating menus. Using an analog stick for moving a digital menu, that only requires up down left and right is terrible. You have to push on the stick in the direction you need, when a simple tap on the D-pad is much faster, and more responsive since it works when you click it, unlike the stick where it activates about halfway through the push.
Pushing down on the D-pad when it's in the lower part of the controller like on an X-box controller is annoying for your thumb, since you need to move your thumb on the desired direction, and click down. When a stick is there, like with PS controllers, you never need to click down on a direction, your just pushing it where it needs to go.
I don't understand why people would want the sticks opposite anyway. People say it keeps your thumbs aligned, with your left thumb on the stick, and the right on the buttons, but 90% of your time in most games these days is spend with both thumbs on the sticks to control the camera while moving.

I was using it on the Steam Link, so maybe that's the problem, as that thing is also a pile of garbage.

Tried it out in Talos, yeah, it's awkward as fuck.
The gyro aiming isn't awful. The thing that bothers me the most is turning around. You have to either flick it which just flings you around wildly, or set up the edge control where if you touch the outer edge it works like a joystick, which is still slow as fuck and weird.
I think it if there was right joystick plus gyro like the Wii U pad on splatoon it would work better overall. I just really can't get used to the touchpad for camera controls at all.
