How were you supposed to know that not saving Booster would magically make a Tow Rope appear two rooms later?
>>
Beats me, I found out from you spergs.
>>
>>322637613
Because the road to hell is not paved with good intentions.
>>
You weren't. Cave Story isn't a well designed game.

It's mostly just famous for its massive impact on the indie scene and the fact that it is freeware made by a single developer.
>>
>>322637613
Experimenting.
There's better examples in other games.
>>
>>322637845
It's still super fun to play through every once in a while, but yeah, it sort of doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I like the idea of there being a super hidden happy ending to a game that people find out about way later, but at least it has to make sense.

I can accept that jumping over the gap that Booster fell into would make him survive because he doesn't give you the Booster to get out and so he can get out yourself, but how the hell does that make a tow rope appear that wasn't there before?

They should have at least let you save Curly but then you wouldn't have been able to restore her memory because you can't access Ma Pignon with the shitty Booster.
>>
>>322637613
You see that you can reach the door without using the booster if you're gud and try it on your second or third playthrough. But you cant expect /v/ to figure out anything without it being force fed down your throat because they're a bunch of casuals.
>>
You're not supposed to know. That's why it's a secret
>>
>>322638206
But how does that jump make the Tow Rope materialize?
>>
>>322637845
Aside from what OP is talking about it's a pretty well designed game.

VIDEO GAMES
>>
>really enjoyed it
>realized I got the bad ending
>can't fix things from my save point, have to start over
>say fuck it and just watch on youtube
Bad game design, to be honest
>>
>>322638439
>not wanting to replay games to see all the ending
/v/ is full of casuals. I bet you like girls you homo
>>
>>322638439
nigga the games like 4 hours long if that, what are you doing that's so important
>>
>>322638578
Masturbating.
>>
>>322638750
i see your point
>>
>>322638415
It still has to follow some sort of real life cause-and-effect logic.

I'm not here to say "harr dee harr what if eating a hot dog heals bullet wounds in real life xd", but jumping over a gap to make a rope appear somewhere else is not valid logic that anyone can just figure out.

>>322638439
That's dumb. Why would the difference between a good and bad ending just be some choice you make right before you get there? Makes the rest of the story irrelevant.
>>
>>322638439
>can't fix things from my save point, have to start over
Bullshit. You have to option to ignore Kazuma's suggestion and keep going. You can only miss out on the best ending.
>>
>>322637613
I think Pixel just anticipated that everyone would use a guide. Or at least some rabbit-hutch dwelling otaku would scour all possible setups within the first few years of the release and find the secrets.
>>
>>322638895
> You can only miss out on the best ending.

I think that's what he meant.
>>
>>322639146
He said he got the bad ending.
>>
>>322639194
Yeah, but maybe he calls the ending where the island crashes down and the Demon Crown gets restored later anyway a "bad ending" as well. I mean, it is pretty bad! Doesn't matter what the actual accepted nomenclature is.

What are the even called? Bad Ending, Good Ending, Best Ending?
>>
>>322638875
>That's dumb. Why would the difference between a good and bad ending just be some choice you make right before you get there? Makes the rest of the story irrelevant.
Not really, it doesn't have to be some binary choice, it could be optional sidequests that could still be completed once you reach the final save, such that you can always go back and complete them if you choose to

If the game is going to fuck you out of endings based on some choice halfway through, it should at least have the decency of keeping a list of past saves for you to load from instead of constantly overwriting them, so that you can go back to the point where shit went wrong
>>
>>322639390
Bad, Normal, Best I believe.
>>
>>322638875
>It still has to follow some sort of real life cause-and-effect logic.

>Complaining about non-realism in VIDEOGAMES
>>
>>322637613
Because it is a secret ending. If everyone got to the secret ending by using logic it would not be so secret, now would it?

>Balos wants to die
>Balos observes you from his crazy hole
>knows there's only x way to get to him
>need the other robot and good way to fly
>if booster dies flights gone so he doesn't bother unburing the tow cable so that the two robots can link together.
>just so happens its needed to save the other
>something something

Imagination. But really its one of those obtuse NES era secrets.
>>
>>322639194
I don't really consider the "bad" ending an ending since you didn't even make it the end of the game. It's more like a game over. The normal ending is thus the bad one, and the best ending is the good ending
>>
>>322637613

BECAUSE DYING SO FUCKING MUCH DOES THAT TO YOU. LALALALA IAM SOMUCHBETTER THEN YOU!
>>
>>322640195
Thought as much. It's pretty shitty how it was designed. It was meant to be a super secret only the very keen people would be able to get to I think.
The game is worth finishing several times imo, especially since isn't long. You can also get different weapons like spur if you didn't get it the first time.
>>
>>322640608
I'll probably go back to it eventually, but I just finished it recently and I'm not feeling it right now
>>
>>322639916
Oh, so you're saying that Booster somehow got out of his hole, overtook you, went into the Core room, and put the tow rope there and then flew home? Damn, that guy is fast! And also...clairvoyance!
>>
>>322637613
You weren't supposed to know. It was supposed to be a secret that only people who cared to search for it knew about. You get a few hints, like the mushroom guy in Mimaga village. It's supposed to be the game's big puzzle. Anyone who says it's bad game design should immediately kill themselves.
>>
>>322641109
Cool, so it's super-hidden. That's okay.

But it makes absolutely zero sense.
>>
>>322641025
No, he's not saying that.
>>
>>322637845

it's clearly a well designed game in almost every other respect.
>>
>>322641320
>if booster dies flights gone so he doesn't bother unburing the tow cable so that the two robots can link together.

What does that mean then?
>>
>>322640390
>Doing 8HP hardmode in hell
Why would you do that to yourself? You don't even get an achievement for that.
>>
>>322641414
Well gee wiz, I guess the "he" in this sentence refers to Balos, since he's the subject of every sentence so far.
>>
>>322641187
Super hidden stuff wouldn't be hidden for long if they made sense.
>>
>>322637992
You will never find that out by replaying the game, it's basically hidden content.
>>
>>322641450
When I was growing up, games being hard was considered a good thing.
>>
>>322641492
Oh, that makes sense. That actually sort of explains the whole thing a little, even though it's pretty far-fetched.

I was confused because Booster was the subject of the sentence in which the word "he" is used.
>>
>>322637845
Most of the game is well designed though, only getting the true ending requires some arbitrary bullshit, but that seems like a standard for jap games, so I don't really mind.

How were you supposed to know to whip the sacred wall to the left when the Eye of Retribution normally kills you for doing that?
>>
>>322639834

keeping something secret does not necessarily entail making it illogical.
>>
>>322641025
A better explanation is it takes longer to talk to booster than it does to make the jump. Thus, in that extra time, the tow rope shifts down and is lost.

and/or boosting around in the core chamber disturbs the water causing the tow rope to shift and fall.

>>322641450

What's the best version of Cave Story?
I have all the platforms it's available for.

>>

because it was vaguely hinted at in a wall writing 30 rooms ago, are you not paying attention

>Cave Story+
Cave Story+ doesn't add much, other then another level, that is a pain in the ass to play.

I like the original, which can be downloaded for free, and has the whole story.

CaveStory was a good game, I wish it got more popular. It's the only throwback game, done right.
Not this Undertale bullshit, that's just a copy of Earthbound, just edger

Cave Story+ is owned by a jew Nicalis (not Studio Pixel) and it has Cave Story mods that are absolutely not his. The best version is the original Cave Story with mods, on RetroArch.

I think it was a start to throwback games, making people think
>lol 8-bit is so retro, I'm such a nerd lol
But CaveStory was a good game, I wish I played it as a kid in the late 80's.
But CaveStory might become what is Sonic today.
>>

I just caved in at the part with the wall portals and started staring at a walkthrough
Also fuck mantras, what the actual fuck was the logic behind them

>bought it a bunch of times on PC when it went on sale
>bought the EX version for vita day 1
>beat hell temple with and without vest
>beat all of the bosses without using sub weapons
>still don't feel like going for the 100% playthrough to get platinum on vita
>all of this and i didn't back la-mulana 2

I wake up regretting it every day. Especially when I can't even see the backer updates.
>>
>>322643231
Added level is the only difficult section in the whole game.
It's fun.
>>
>>322643231

i know you're type. you just haven't played undertale yet. you're gonna play it and then you're gonna be an annoying undertale fanboy because the one consistent opinion you hold is that everything you're familiar with is great and everything unfamiliar is for tryhard plebs.
>>
>>322643667
You can still back it at Playism, I did and got backer forum access at least
They post the backer updates on the backer forum too, but the forum has been down since December for whatever reason
>>
>>322644049
If I wasn't NEET that had a very slow income I'd fucking back the $150 tier right now.

I'll probably settle for $25 or the $35 tier though.

What? It was stupidly popular, it's just that most people have seen and experienced it by now, and there's only so much to discuss
