So, basically, the PS4 has been hacked and the hackers themselves said that PS4's security is so shitty everyone can hack one.
Plus it seems Linux can be installed on it, even more easily than on a PS3, exactly because the PS4 is more similar to an actual PC, as the hacker explained.
This virtually allows to install SteamOS in a PS4, making it a Steam machine. And of course this will allow easier piracy and, some years from now, emulation.

- This method of hacking uses a webkit exploit that's only in very early firmwares of the PS4 and has already been fixed in firmware updates.
- Installing linux is more just a "show we can do it" thing. It's not something they're doing because they think Linux on PS4 is super useful or anything.
- This does not mean piracy is happening. If you wanted to pirate PS4 games you'd need to stay in PS4 mode, which means all kinds of things that the Linux running doesn't have to deal with.
- This does not mean the PS4 is capable of playing every PC game suddenly. I mean you could probably try running anything that runs on Linux on it while Linux is installed on it, but chances are that shit ain't going to work unless the game is hyper simple and that's not any games that you're going to care about enough to buy a PS4 and install fucking linux through an early firmware-only exploit for.

In the future it might be possible to run windows through a VM maybe even with GPU pass-through for native graphical performance. You need two GPUs if you intend to use both OSes at the same time but if you only need one at a time I think you could run linux "headless" acting as the VM/hypervisor and give the GPU to windows. When you shutdown windows it should restore the GPU to the hypervisor(linux) I believe.

Because the PS3 initially actually allowed you to run Linux so there wasn't much point to hacking the system. The problem was that you didn't get access to the graphics hardware so you were stuck with VESA mode which sucked. Some users figured out how to access the graphics hardware and Sony freaked out and locked Linux out. It was hacked shortly thereafter.
