>The Last of Us became one of the best-selling PlayStation 3 games, selling over 1.3 million units in its first week, and over eight million units within fourteen months.

PS3 owners were THIS desperate for gaems

>Considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time, it won year-end accolades, including over 240 Game of the Year awards from several gaming publications, making it one of the most awarded games in history.

Holy shit, wtf did I miss? Is there some weight to this or is it just desperate console faggotry?
I've somehow missed all the buzz about this game then, I never heard or seen anyone say this was a GOAT game.

>mfw it's 2015 and the PS3 actually has games
You can't compete with the PS Triple, Sony always wins.

Can anyone tell me WHY it was such a success?
>>

marketing
>>
>>322606254
So no actual weight to this?

I sense it was done like a movie? with realistic combat?
>>
>>322606410
its just a generic zombie game with tons of walking scenes, very minimal but easy combat, and a story thats jsut every other zombie story ever told.

it literally just sold because of its massive marketing and being made by a popular developer for 7th gen consoles

Yea I remember a lot of marketing, I'm watching a walkthrough now and the intro IS pretty impressive. Looks a bit dated and clunky already though being a 2013 game.
>>
>>322606854
its not a terrible game but it just doesn't do anything really good besides some cutscenes

good first impression but not much else. it sucks cause i was kinda hyped for it but they just took the cash cow route.

Zombie game with bandits mixed in (which is kind of rare for most zombie games). Stealth gameplay and heavy focus on resource management. Good production values. Good melee combat, very smooth automatic cover system that adjusts your character's animation to cover instead of sticking you to it and decent climbing system that lets you climb up heights/on top of props etc.

Also a solid multiplayer that implements crafting and resource management as well and is the reason I'm sad this is not on PC because it has so much potential for custom maps.

Also fuck the PS4's paid online that I will be forced to pay for when TLoU 2 ever gets released.
>>
>>322605054
You can't really be that retarded, can you OP? The game had a HUGE marketing deal, was hyped immensely, early gameplay videos had the hype shot up even more.

I bought TLOU the day it came out and enjoyed playing through it twice, but I don't get why many outlets call it such a groundbreaking game. The combat is a slower and more grounded Uncharted, and the game is sectioned up into stealth, combat, and puzzle parts that just involve moving a dumpster, ladder, or a wood pallet across water because the companion character can't swim.

TLOU is by no means a bad game, but its painfully average; the marketing and the story is what sold the game. Those numbers honestly don't seem that far fetched to me, but I don't really trust them.
>>
>>322605054
It's probably one of the only heavy story games that are done right. It didn't do anything new, but everything it brought to the table was really polished with a few bumps when it comes to ai.

This. It was a legitimately great game and you need to stop your autism. I know it's /v/ but your autism is quite draining sometimes by how forceful it is.
>>
>>322610574
The only thing I think people were ever 'mad' about was people calling an average game amazing.
>>
The story was very good by video game standards and the game play melds well with the story telling at the end of the game.

The main character is sympathetic but flawed, so he's more relatable than most other protagonist.

Decent game. Not really ground breaking but other titles should aim for its level of narrative.

This. I had a PS3 and when I beat this game I was baffled at how hard it was fellated for doing absolutely nothing what was promised in the E3 presentation.

Borderline false advertising.

Probably the fact that your NPC buddy runs STRAIGHT FUCKING PAST HIM and he doesn't notice.

NPCs in this game are coded to not alert guards, which is actually a blessing given how stupid they are and how prone they are to just running around spastically outside of cover.
