Lots of games make it seem that way, because they do them so poorly. The Souls series has a history of doing bosses so well. Platinum and Clover do boss battles perfectly, too. Boss battles no longer exist, because developers are so focused on their "Cinematic" gameplay.

Just finished pic related last night. The bosses were fun, but screw everything about The Forgotten One and its cheap weak points that require air attacks where your only evade mechanic is useless because you keep hitting his shoulder.

God of War isn't a japanese game, is it? I don't quite remember. That one had great bosses.

Honestly, isn't that an essence of what the genre boils down to? A boss is supposed to obey the same rules as normal enemies, the trick is in reading their patterns and knowing how to approach them, what to block, what to evade, what to shoot, when to shoot it, there's little point in having a boss fight that suddenly changes to being a completely different genre of gameplay.

That's why things like puzzle bosses that are not about fighting a strong creature you have to deal with but instead do nonsense such as "press these levers in the right order to open a trapdoor that will kill it" are just not fun and definitely not memorable.

Legitimately curious- how are they not realistic? You have animal packs/herds in nature that have alphas/leaders who tend to be stronger or faster than the rest. In human society, there's hierarchy everywhere whether it's corporate/business, traditions/societies etc and they have the concept of leaders/people on the top as well. people move on, people want some kind of story or a way they know that shit is about to hit the fan. Boss battles do that, however I will say that said battle feels forced if defeating it requires mechanics outside of the game's system. I'd much rather have the boss battle focus on your mastery of said mechanics.

Monsoon was probably the closest thing to a good fight in that game. The Mistral and Senator fights had some cool use of dynamic music but the fights themselves were mediocre.

Nope, GoW is made by santa monica studios, and owned by Sony. LoS was made by Spaniards and I was pleasantly surprised it did a decent job of being a clone while managing to make its own universe, loved everything about Lords. I'm curious, why not, Anon? I'm currently playing through the sequel, it seems to have cleaned up the gameplay nicely. The games are TERRIBLE for the franchise's continued existence, a pointless reboot that did NOT need to exist, but in their own merits, they stand up well as action games.

Really surprised that it was made by a spanish studio though, it's not usually a country associated with videogames and it makes me even more impressed that the final product had such great production values in pretty much every aspect except the story.

Also considering Kojima had a hand in it, it's a foreshadowing for the story disaster that was Big Boss in MGSV. Dracula had pretty much NO reason to turn evil and spends most of the first game as a saintly person despite the game constantly yapping about how much he's fallen to darkness.

I've assumed that boss fights don't focus group well so no western games have them. If some 80 year old man on his death bed can't beat it then they remove it or severely nerf it.

Yes I did, and no they don't. They explain why he turned into a VAMPIRE, but they don't explain why necessarily he'd abandon the goodness of his heart that was basically enough to burn Satan to ashes by itself and lead armies of night horrors to raze villages while ruling as lord of Castlevania.

Unless the justification is literally that the vampire/forgotten one powers brainwashed him into being evil, in which case I don't consider a saintly character sacrificing himself by being injected by a syringue of evil and turning into a bastard a good successor to the first Dracula, who was an extremely pious man driven hateful by the contradiction of God's works taking the thing he loved the most from him while he was far away in the east doing His work, and then deciding to oppose everything that He stands for for eternity while entirely conscious of what he was doing.

Also the only good thing about the DLC is playing as loli vampire and sucking enemies dry.
