I think that has less to do with Kanji not caring for her anymore, and more to do with the fact that Naoto can be sniped by the MC not too long from then, and since Social Links change basically none of the main story dialogue, they couldn't have Naoto and Kanji getting flirty together because it could potentially cause dialogue issues if MC decides he wants the reverse trap.

Larry goes missing, so Chie's shadow has the domination symbolism shit going on because Chie subconsciously likes Larry relying on her, but the shadow spins it as overblown as it possibly can.
Larry is stressed working at the inn, and doesn't like that she is getting railroaded into taking over the inn, which ends up getting the bird in a cage symbolism, with the added bonus of the princess shit sort of tying back into her semi-conscious Chie reliance, come-save-me-prince shit. After the fight, Larry admits that the shit that the shadow represents are thoughts she has had, but they don't make up all of the being that is, 'Larry.'
Kanji has always had the girly hobbies and was demonstrably touchy about being considered girly, so he has likely harbored some repressed insecurities about his manliness. Throw Naoto's androgynous trap ass into the mix, and those nagging insecurities get brought to the forefront. Then he gets thrown in a TV.
