Go for the "fair price" bonuses which levels up your merchant level up faster, in addition to levelling the customers such that they have more money to spend. A small (10% or whatever cut, and that already tends to go above the fair price range) on standard isn't where you earn big, that comes primarily from price fluxuations (buy at half price, sell at double) and from really expensive items at as big margin as you can (and in order to sell them, you have to level up your customers with fair prices).
Some characters have more money than others. Some kid on allowance wont have a lot so sell her stuff at cost just to keep the multiplier up and dont suggest expensive stuff to her.

The game is a bit disingenuous in its tutorial suggesting that you go full CAPITALISM HO on people. It's better to try and go somewhere near or exactly at their "expected price" as near-pin and pin bonuses will allow you to level up and will also raise your customer's levels, giving them bigger wallets.
Pay attention to your store atmosphere, it affects who will want to come to your store and what they will expect to find.
Make sure to keep a stock of super-cheap goods in every category in case you need to sell during a depression.
The little girl and Louie are both super broke and so be careful when they come in (then again you'll want to sell equipment to your adventurers cheap so that they get it in their inventories). Prime is a fucking jew.
Alouette, on the other hand, is fucking loaded and you can sell her crap at much higher prices.

This happens with a lot of people. The game tells you to sell @130%. This is wrong, you probably shouldn't sell at any higher than 115%. That little bitch in your pic is a little bitch, you should sell to her at 105% or even base price. Once you get a good combo going you'll be making loadsamoney.
