Why do people obsess over le golden ages of PS and PS2 JRPGs when Neps blows them all the fuck out? Honestly out of all of those only the DQ games can hold a candle to it.

I know this is bait but I honestly think Neptunia is one of the worst games I've ever played.

Even if stories on PS1 and PS2 era JRPGs were simplistic, I prefer sincere stories to tongue-in-cheek self-aware stuff.
Also, while Neptunia games do try lots of things with gameplay, not many of them work. It's like dev team goes "Hey, you know what would be great? Randomly spawning elite enemies and dungeons you can randomly find!" Then they add those in without thinking it through and it really sucks, but they won't bother taking it out because more content, right?
Compare that to something like Ar Tonelico 2, that doesn't have too many features, but everything in game works well together. And even if it's something very simple like Dragon Quest, I like it when games do what they set out to do well rather than doing shitload of stuff poorly.
I like Neptunia games for their characters and stupid stories, but I like other stuff more.

I wouldn't say it's that bad. Sure, the games aren't too good, but they improve with each installment, even if the progress has slowed down after first two. Though after what shitshows those were, it'd be even more amazing if they didn't get better.
