How's 2016 looking for hardware?
Worth an upgrade from 2014 kit?
It's looking good for hardware but tragic for affordability.

Possibly, we'll know for sure by Q2 or Q3. With any luck AMD will provide an affordable reason to upgrade CPUs and force Intel to react with some price drops or new products of their own.
If AMD releases a 395 or a 490 with a GCN 1.2 GPU that fits between the 390 and Fury in terms of performance with 8GB of RAM I'll probably pick one up. If AMD can sort out their driver situation by then.

As the OP, I'll probably be sticking with nvidia.
GeForce Experience is pretty cool and it seems like AMD are better bang for buck but don't have as much potential bang.

Nvidia beats AMD at high end. Unless you're getting a 980ti and you have 1000$ to spare, they don't get NVIDIA.
Most /v/tards can't afford a graphics card that costs more than 200 USD. So just get a r9 380.
If you're richer, then get r9 390.
If you're much richer, get NVIDIA's 980/980ti.

Pascal is supposed to be pretty good. Lots of vram finally to combat console ports that eat vram like crazy. I imagine AMD will follow suit, though they already have cards with 8GB of vram. Pascal is supposed to have 12-16GB depending on which card you get.
I fell for the 970 meme so I'm going to wait until Pascal and AMD's offerings are out and have reviews to see if I should switch.

The problem with the 390 is that its GCN 1.1, and AMD's new open source driver efforts are focused on GCN 1.2 hardware.
A 380 or 380x would get me on GCN 1.2, but it wouldn't be that big of an upgrade from my current card.
Either wait for Nvidia to stop being absolute cucks or buy a Nvidia graphics card. There might be a breakthrough on AMD`s side soon enough.

If you don't need a CPU this minute you'll be better off waiting to see what AMD manages with Zen. If its good it will at the very least force price drops.
