They stream tournaments on twitch all the time, with like $100,000 prize pools, crazy for such an old game. They have added all kinds of tweaks as well, high resolutions and spectator mode (aoe2 used to have only recorded games) and dashboard if you care about that.
None of the best players play on Steam/"HD version", because it sucks.
